Québec veut resserrer le robinet des consommateurs d'eau en brandissant la menace de la tarification.

Le gouvernement met en place une stratégie de réduction de la consommation d'eau potable qui force les municipalités à agir. Sur 20 ans, une économie de deux milliards de dollars est escomptée.

D'ici à 2017, la production moyenne d'eau potable par personne devra être réduite de 20%.

Sinon, des compteurs d'eau seront installés pour les consommateurs non-résidentiels dès 2014 et une tarification «adéquate» sera introduite pour les résidences en 2017.
