i had a dog that i gave to my cuz when i was a kid he didn't live 200 miles away more like 50 or 60 lived n next town bout hr away and they had a truck and my cuz rode in the back with the dog and he said he noticed the whole way there the dog kept lookin at the road behind them as if trying to remember his way. and sure enough early the next morning they called said dog had got out of the fence and after hung up went to go check the mail and there he was sitting on the corner of the porch staring at the door waiting for us to open the door lol

but yeah he was smart and could fight to he use to get into fights with neighborhood dogs over female dogs lol which is why we had to get rid of him and he was part begal part something lil short dog lol but he beat up pits and shit over that pussy lol and one of his brothers from same litter when he was still a pup had got ran over and crushed his back legs my dad was out of town so we got neighbor to come and shoot it to put it out of its misery and bury it in the back yard well he shot it in the head right so u think for sure he be dead right but no lol next day i just happen to be looking out the window toward backyard and noticed the dog was alive moving around with his front 2 legs and i yelled to my mom that he still alive she didn't believe me till she looked out and saw it couldn't believe after being ran over crushed back legs then shot in the head and still lived apparently the mother must of knew he wasnt dead and dug em back up so we had the neighbor shoot em again and he couldn't believe he was still alive neither now if he survived that again then he we give up and he can live but he wouldn't have lived to much longer anyway
so not only are they very smart but they also very tough
