To have an upper hand and to manipulate intelligence agencies by spreading false information and lies into circulation to mislead the public and their "Cold War" enemys.

This technique is also used in many wars and was successful in helping stop hitler.

By spreading false information into the german intelligence agencies and the media they tricked hitler and his military and made him think they were attacking from the east so the german military moved positions to defend the attack but in reality the allied forces flanked them and caught them off guard and attacked from the west and that was one of the reasons hitler was defeated after his supply chain was totally disrupted.

They decieved the entired german military and the axis intelligence agencies completely.
