Updates as they come in. This also looks Earth facing but not verified as of yet. We will be getting pounded in the next few days.

:peep:
can only imagine what happens when it actually gets angry...

Thanks for the bump Data :flop: rare to see you about and much appreciated.

CME Update: A faint Coronal Mass Ejection (CME) appears to be leaving the Sun following the M9.3 flare event when viewing the latest STEREO Ahead COR2 imagery. It is possible that there will be an Earth directed component. This will need to be confirmed once new LASCO imagery becomes available.

A couple more M-Flares happened already today. 2.5 and a 3.5 out of 1875

2013-10-24 02:56 UTC Head On Eruption

Region 1877, very close to the Sun-Earth line, produced an R2 (Moderate) Radio Blackout at 0030 UTC on 24 October (8:30 p.m. EDT 23 October). There are indications of a Coronal Mass Ejection, forecasters are checking. Watch for updates of possible Geomagnetic Storm activity from this event. An earlier rash of CMEs from the past few days, none nearly as energetic as this one, may bring G1 (Minor) Geomagnetic Storming on October 25.

Ironman You may not have a Guru but you got me. Guess you will have to just settle with that. :D

Ok people. we have had two X-class flares along with two filaments lifting off already today. My video only contains images from the first. Things are getting crazy and log jamming up at sources. I will try to get another video together of the second later today.

Sunspot 1882 now in view off the southeast limb produced the second X-Class flare of the day. The latest major event at 15:03 UTC peaked at X2.1. A strong radio blackout was observed on the sunlit side of Earth. While listening to the 10 meter (28mhz) amateur radio band, signals went from very strong to almost nothing in a matter of minutes. Signals did start to recover after about 15 minutes. A coronal mass ejection (CME) is likely. More updates to follow.

At the time of the flare, Ashcraft was also monitoring the sun using an "H-alpha" solar telescope tuned to the red glow of solar hydrogen. The telescope recorded a tsunami of plasma emerging from the blast site. "It's the shadowy wave that races away to the right of the sunspot," Ashcraft points out.

The tsunami was the source of the radio emission. Shock waves at the leading edge of the tsunami cause plasma instabilities in the sun's atmosphere. Those instabilities, in turn, generate shortwave radio emissions. Ashcraft is a regular listener of the sun and he classifies the Oct. 22nd outburst as "one of the strongest radio blasts of the solar cycle so far. Hopefully it bodes well for future activity." Solar flare alerts: text, voice.

Thanks for the posts Disturbia and Ironman.

Ok here is my 2nd edition for today. I do hope it stays quite for a few hrs. My day is almost gone.

This one has some other event captures along with the repeated X flare views that happened after the first.

Enjoy
