The past 24hrs have been very active on the Sun. We have had a M5.6 that is Earth directed that has happened just a bit ago. I will dig for data and try to get something put together and posted later today.

I new there was some activity in the past 24 hrs but damn!

Sweet find. thank you for posting.

I do know we have had 4 Mclass flares already today. This at first look seem to be from behind. I do not know the exact classification at this point. The Sun seems to be popping every few hrs now.

I am sorry to say I do not think I have time to put a video together today. In and out of the house doing 4th stuff.

Will check on others later to see if any info comes out from them.

4TH OF JULY FIREWORKS: Chances of an X-flare today are increasing as sunspot AR1515 develops a 'beta-gamma-delta' magnetic field that harbors energy for the most powerful explosions. The sunspot's magnetic canopy is crackling with almost-X class flares, the strongest so far being an M5-flare at 09:54 UT. Each "crackle" releases more energy than a billion atomic bombs, so these are 4th of July fireworks indeed.

The sunspot itself is huge, stretching more than 100,000 km (8 Earth-diameters) from end to end. This movie from NASA's Solar Dynamics Observatory shows the behemoth growing and turning toward Earth over the past five days:

I have not found out more on this yet. I did notice a filament lifting in that area. But images are not complete enough to tell. Data slow coming in. Wish I could help more.

I will post a vid from Dr K Strong. It is a bit long but covers the past few days. The past 18hrs may be a surprise for some that have not been watching closely.
