I use three different virus programs: Hitman pro,Avira and Malwarebytes.
All three are available for free, legally, at cnet.com :flop:

To be honest I'm not even sure what "alien" means. Alien to what? The universe is teeming with life.

First let us know if this is the kind of "crash" you had...

If your using wincrap (Yes windows is crap), then you need to disable certain features, such as: autoupdate, ActiveX installer, SSDP service, file and print sharing (NIC level, not service level for the network disabling)..

Then you should use a "single" virus program such as Avira (free), and a proxy server such as the free "privoxy", add Opera web browser, set both the integrated internet exploder (explorer) connection setting, to use the 127.0.0.1 at port 8118 (privoxy default) for "all" but ftp (leave ftp alone).. In Opera, you should also accept only cookies from the site, not from a referrer site, and they should be set to delete upon exit of browser make sure to set the master password, for the password remembering portion of the browser, prevents unauthorized entries)

There is NO REASON.. to have your computer doing auto updates, none.. they were meant for certain hardware, and or software drivers, that were incompatible, or for buggy driver interface compatibility problems in the I/O buss itself.. But the average computer, goes from birth to death, with the "SAME HARDWARE" installed, hence no need for updates..

Only when changing OS (software) adding certain games, or installing new hardware, does this present a "potential" issue, but is not the first course of action to allow to happen.. Their has been a fear factor for years involving old virus codes, that tag on to older drivers, that have a back door in them, or a potential abuse of opportunity (such as an exception code or error code, that displays the fault to the end user, while at the same moment, locking certain registry setting in memory, that can allow a virus to propagate, but they have long since been included into the current forms of virus protection programs)

I have not had a virus get beyond the gates, in decades.. simply because I do not allow "willy-nilly" changes in my OS, and my drivers.. plus I always back up the original setting in both the registry, and image the C: drive, before adding hardware/software..

Basic maintenance procedures (just like a car) if you ignore them, eventually something is going to "break"..
