control Freaks take over Farmers Market
Is this for real, can they really patent the name organic, quiet unbeleivable and shocking
I have been astonished that men could die martyrs for their religion -
I have shudder'd at it.
I shudder no more.
I could be martyr'd for my religion
Love is my religion
And I could die for that.
I could die for you.
I have shudder'd at it.
I shudder no more.

They can own a copyright on a name/word if it is "useful" to the government. This is why you can't use the words:
NSA
FBI
CIA
United States Federal Government
United States Commission
U.S. NAVY
U.S. Army
U.S. Marines
and evidently...they grabbed "Organic"...for the FDA.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Copyright_status_of_work_by_the_U.S._government
The question is that can a term as common as "Organic" be used by the Government to control/regulate the sale of food...
This is most definitely a constitutional lawyer's place to answer this question... but on the surface it looks to be "legit" based on the rules of copyrights and trademarks.
They aren't making money on the name, but they are requiring a form of "documentation/certification" to use the word "organic"... which...and I am not a lawyer...appears to not be in any form of violation of law specific to copyrighting a word/name.
This is something that should be better defined in what the government can do with a copyright on a word/name as well as the extents of their control over the use of said word/name.

That's downright strange, I have to say. I had a look around the interweb and it seems you can't copyright a common English word (unless it's in a logo or something). However, how things work in America I don't know. But it's ridiculous.
If you just check out the wikipedia page on 'organic' it's insane.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Organic_certification
In December 2005, the 2006 agricultural appropriations bill was passed with a rider allowing 38 synthetic ingredients to be used in organic foods. Among the ingredients are food colorings, starches, sausage and hot-dog casings, hops, fish oil, chipotle chili pepper, and gelatin. This allowed Anheuser-Busch in 2007 to have its Wild Hop Lager certified organic "even though [it] uses hops grown with chemical fertilizers and sprayed with pesticides.

I don't think it's a hoax, also I don't think they have to 'own' the name organic to make laws that will make the life of a small organic farmer 'hell' and to make organic farms disappear, go default.

Small farmers in the us should leave this bull shit standard organic, because it's not organic at all, instead they could use this :
the private farmer-to-farmer association, Certified Naturally Grown, offers a "non-profit alternative eco-labelling program for small farms that grow using USDA Organic methods but are not a part of the USDA Certified Organic program."
because what comes from big government is always under the influence of big corporations. The same we see /saw in the herb / homeopathy 'business'.

somehow I tend to say this is a good development.
I'm starting to think we really need to get way more down and dirty to rise again.
And I'm quite convinced (but not totally sure) that mankind still possesses the ability to crawl back up. To finally, after we've almost reached the Soylent Green stage, realise they are getting fcked everyday and to rise up against it.
Or, like Terence McKenna said it nicely:
We have to get almost choked in the birth canal to finally get born for real.
