"UN accuses Iran of working to build nuclear bomb"
UN weapons inspectors have officially accused Iran of carrying out work to build a nuclear bomb for the first time.
A damning report to be issued by the International Atomic Energy Agency next week will say Tehran has processed a substantial quantity of uranium to a point where it could be used to trigger a nuclear explosion.
The document provides direct evidence of Iran's efforts to assemble a nuclear weapon which could provide a compelling justification for new UN sanctions against the country's regime.
"Iran has not provided the necessary co-operation to permit the agency to confirm that all nuclear material in Iran is in peaceful activities," a leaked copy of the report said yesterday.
"The information available to the agency raises concerns about the possible existence in Iran of past or current undisclosed activities related to the development of a nuclear payload for a missile."
Diplomats said the report marked a turning point in efforts to expose Iran's ambitions. Credit for the abrupt change in the IAEA's stance went to Yukiya Amano, who took over as head of the agency, at the turn of the year.
Mohamed ElBaradei, the IAEA's Egyptian former chief, was consistently reluctant to make definitive conclusions about evidence of Iranian violations.
Some diplomats believed Mr ElBaradei bore the scars of the IAEA's inaccurate accusations that Iraq and Saddam Hussein harboured a secret programme to build a weapon.
"He was determined not to slide into a march to war against Iran," said one Western diplomat. "Unfortunately it became a dogma for him over Iran."
A second departure in the report, which will be submitted to the IAEA's governing board on Mar 1, was an endorsement of intelligence passed on by Western governments, including CIA and MI6.
It said: "The information available to the agency is broadly consistent and credible in terms of the technical detail, the time frame in which the activities were conducted and the people and organisations involved."
The accusation that Iran is producing uranium that can be used in a nuclear weapon goes beyond the official American assessment of Iran's nuclear programme. America's spy chiefs have officially concluded that Iran stopped weapons experiments as far back as 2003. The White House has confirmed that the assessment is currently under review.
The IAEA further criticised Iran for allowing its scientists to enrich uranium to a new, denser level before international inspectors had arrived at the plant, a violation of its obligations.
The Foreign Office last night welcomed the report and said it bolstered the case for tough new sanctions that are designed to curb the regime.
"The report makes clear that Iran has not suspended its enrichment-related activities or its work on heavy water related projects as required by the UN Security Council," a spokesman said. "The IAEA's charge sheet against Iran is getting longer and longer with each report."
It added that the full nature of Iranian "duplicity" had been put on display by the report.
Western powers have said "all options" including military force are on the table to stop Iran but government leaders still hope that a diplomatic solution can be struck by curtailing the funds of Iran's power brokers.
However Ali Asghar Soltanieh, Iran's ambassador to the IAEA, said the report had cleared Tehran. "The IAEA's new report confirmed Iran's peaceful nuclear activities and the country's non-deviation towards military purposes."

Yes stay distracted with things concerning the UN.
Keep believing the crap they are feeding you.
Keep believing there is are Good guys and Bad Guys so you feel you can back a winning side. America do you really think that this Iran crap has meaning? Keep hating that country that should hate you for what you are trying to do and have done to the neighbours.
America is responsible for much damage and war conflict. You are feed lies. After your government double crossed Saddam, did he not have a right to get angry? When your troops were there in the Iran Iraq war and tried to pull a fast one on him did he not have a right to defend himself?
Why just America the Corporation? (never a Country)
Why do you create hate then hate the country that stands up for itself?
Is this not what America does?
You must understand you know only the juicy bits to keep you ready for action.
Blind patriot acts against countries who America has made this problem with.
Move on America.
I am tired of seeing posts degrading countries(you know who you are) your corporation illegally invaded. You are the ones who need to understand your WAR effort is as fake as your media.
America is the Antichrist. The end times came and went when your corporation came to power around 1290. America is the new Babylon.
We are one species divided, put down your shields, apologise for they way you view other countries who have done little in comparison.
I know there are those who do see like this(quick to believe they hate ) so that is good you know this message is not for you.

I don't understand why the countries who have nukes, spend so much energy trying to keep others from having them. It's somewhat hypocritical. I don't support the building of any weapons, but it seems that everyone is so focused on Iran. If I were them, I might want to get a weapon to ensure my survival as a nation. I doubt that they would ever intend to use it offensively (That would mean certain annihilation for them) . It's more likely a security measure for them.
The UN should spend more time looking at the skeletons in their own closets and stop bullying others. The UN has every conceivable weapon in their arsenal.
I'm not anti-American or anything (I love my country). I'm just trying to say that we should focus on our own issues before we go around telling others how to live. Our own morals and ethics have been eroded. It's become a 'Do as we say, not as we do' situation here. Until we clean up our own act, we should not try to force others to live by our ideals.
There has to be some way that we can find to create a cohesive world to live in. A peaceful world.
The wars are created by people who want to profit or gain more power. Us regular people from all parts of the world just want to live a good life. We don't want wars. I don't know a single person that believes wars are good.
Why can't we all just get along. There's plenty of resources for everyone to get an equal share, if we develop free energy solutions.
I guess I'm naive to be so hopeful for some Utopian solution, but I fear that this is impossible for the human way of thinking.

There are a few countries that haven't put their national treasuries in the hands of the international banking cartels. They are: Iran, Syria, Venezuela, N. Korea. Iraq earns a notable mention as it used to be one of them. Together, they are referred to as the "axis of evil".
So long as all money comes from banks at interest - that must be paid with other money that does not exist yet, we will forever be in an unsustainable snake-eating-it's-tail spiral towards armageddon. Our present-day world is a pyramid scheme where the rich get richer, the poor get poorer, and the middle class shrinks towards nothing...
