Recent movie fairytales show young princesses as strong and emancipated. In the animated film Brave, Merida, a Scottish princess, defies tradition and rejects marriage, while two recent movie versions of Snow White present the fair maiden either as cunning or battle-ready. The question is whether the new image is satisfying young audiences. VOA's Penelope Poulou has more.

brainwashing at its finest i think you will find,
the story of life is quicker than the blink of an eye, the story of love is hello and goodbye, until we meet again my friend.

You could say the same for toys, girls are being 'empowered' there too.

For more funny barbie's, check:

Yes, I had a couple of Barbie's........and a 'Ken' who I called Grant, they had a toy dog (a husky) called 'Todger' (I really didn't know what that ment at the time and my dad made me change it's name to 'hero').
But I digress, yes, damsels in distress are getting thin on the ground in books and films. You could blame the Spice girls - remember them?
Changing times - as always.

In a way, yes.
Woman has become like her brother. She drinks, smokes, fornicates and demands to be heard.
She wears tattoo's and uses violence to make her point (in some cases), she fights in the military and now chooses who she takes to bed.
Her children are by men of her choosing (sometimes wrong men, I know!) and she swears and demands full-filling sex and control of HER life.
Just like her 'brother'.
The future is female - So we're lead to believe - But I prefer that the future is Man + Woman, or any combination of human's, if that's their desire.
Because the future is about humanity (us, all of us) so, there are no more 'damsels in distress' just human's in the need of rescue - by other human's?

[quote="Thruster"]This is what happens when you take women off the leash and allow them to stray from the kitchen, in the good old days you would have their toes removed to let them get closer to the cooker.
Oh! Is that the time?
Must dash!
Laters!

LOL!
Thanks for that reminder of the Neanderthals, polish your club and beat another dinosaur to death for dinner!
Women will leave the kitchen and unless you get with the programe, you'll be left with nothing but an apron and a microwave that won't cook your pot-noodle.
And we'll have the 'tv-remote' as well!

Pffft!!! Don't be rediculous! The next thing you'll be telling me you'd like the right to vote!!
Now, if you could just get my slippers and enough of this sillyness.

Strangely enough, a lot of us women like strong confident men who tell us what to do..........
But I'm not one of them.......cough, cough....
