On the original tape, yes, but this is a recording of a screen playing the original tape.
To me, this alien looking nothing like we're used to seeing on TV is evidence of it being real instead of it not being real. They want you to fear aliens and see them as the bad guys, this little fella is pretty hard to demonize.
