Man accused in death of rabbit at park pleads not guilty

A Salem man accused of commanding his dog to kill a rabbit in front of four children pleaded not guilty at his arraignment Friday.

Luke Kishpaugh, 33, of Salem pleaded not guilty to two charges of animal abuse and a single charge of having a dangerous dog.

All charges are Class A misdemeanors that carry a maximum sentence of one year in prison and a fine of $6,250, said his attorney, Jon Weiner.

Kishpaugh's next appearance will be a July 6 status conference, Weiner said.

Marion County Circuit Court Judge Audrey Broyles reminded Kishpaugh of a condition of his release agreement: He cannot possess pets. He was released upon posting bail May 29.

Kishpaugh was arrested May 28 after an incident the day before when he allegedly ordered his Doberman pinscher, Memphis, to attack and kill a rabbit at Woodmansee Park while the girls watched.
