With all of the hype about a methane bubble in the Gulf of Mexico and the possible eruption of it producing a tsunami, etc...has now been debunked!

Uhm ,,,No not Debunked
1st comment to article is from the guy the 'debunk' article calls a 'tinfoil hat -fear mongerer'
"Terrence Aym responds: The Businessinsider.com article titled, "Scientist Denies He Ever Predicted BP Oil Spill Would Cause Extinction Of Mankind," is itself misleading because I never asserted that Dr. Ryskin predicted that the BP disaster would lead to mass extinction, only cited his theory that a similar scenario led to two mass extinction in prehistoric times. Next, if you read the article carefully and exercise cognitive skills, you will note something that the reporter missed completely (as, it seems, Mr. "zdeaconblue." When asked if what I wrote might possibly happen (in a worst case cascading scenario), Dr. Ryskin replied: "Methane hydrates are the volatile compounds that have been released in large quantities in the Gulf of Mexico. They may suffocate aquatic life or cause a pressure explosion. But they probably won't poison the atmosphere and destroy 96 percent of life on earth." Note the words "probably won't." Dr. Ryskin dd not reply, "no, it cannot happen," or "that's impossible." Why did he qualify his answer? Because like any good scientist he knows there are many variables and NO ONE really knows what is happening under the Gulf seabed or where it can lead. Finally, the report of methane up to 1 million times higher than the norm in parts of the Gulf prove that methane has been spewing in at a rate not seen in human history. I reported on that weeks ago from multiple sources. Several days ago Dr, Ryskin returned from his analysis of the Gulf and his initial reports supported my report of the methane levels and made theses headlines on the Drudge Report: Methane levels 'million times higher than normal'... ...levels only seen during mass extinction events Texas A&M University's website crashed from the traffic steered to it by Drudge, but before the university removed the page I made a copy of it. Here is Dr. Ryskin's statement about the methane: "Preliminary results show concentrations at some points to be a million times higher than normal, researcher says John Kessler, a chemical oceanographer in the College of Geosciences at Texas A&M University, is currently analyzing methane levels in water collected from seven miles to 500 meters from the Deepwater Horizon wellhead." Other reports of areas of the seabed rising and fissures found miles from the site of the Deepwater Horizon disaster have been confirmed by independent sources since I wrote the article. The article itself is not a "conspiracy theory" or some wild-eyed prediction that doomsday is going to occur. It is a worst case scenario. Can it happen? To quote Dr. Ryskin, it "probably won't." Can it happen? It's possible. Terrence Aym / July 24, 2010"
