If you look throughout history, you will find that at the turn of every "new" century, there is a tremendous amount of emotional hub-bub about these types of things. Man's collective conscience worrying about, hypothesizing on, speculating, theorizing, etc. about what the future holds. All filled with, at times, all the frenetics and fervor that we currently find ourselves amidst and part of. That part of it, at least, is nothing new.

Amen man.
Seems like most people who are not completely brain dead, or straight-up evil, speak of this feeling of, well, "ominousness" about this age we live in. Whether they still buy into the "economic" or "political" bullshit, or innately sense from a spiritual sense that something is seriously wrong in the world we inhabit, people everywhere hunger to truly understand the world around them. That little victory makes me happy.
Even if it does come horribly, I think our people are on the cusp of truly understanding our planet, and universe, better.
