I have an answering machine on my private line, with call identity, if I don't know the number displayed, or if, it's 'witheld', then I let the machine pick it up.

Now, I wish I had saved some of those calls, a couple were real strange, one number, can't recall it now, had some woman telling me that washing your hair kills dolphins! and another, a deep, male voice told me that all the ducks had flown NORTH and many had seen lights in the sky............., oh, and one wanted me have more life insurance in case I died.

Interesting stuff.........

Now THAT is some seriously fucked up John Keel type shit. If you want to freak yourself out about answering the phone, read the Mothman Prophecies. Dude. If I got calls like that I'd change my number.

The Mothman Prophecies, only seen the film - it was alright - Richard Gere starred in it, I seem to remember, your right about that phone - If my phone was smashed in pieces and still rang - I would have to admire the phone company, that's some piece of kit!

The book is much better, having read it I was very disappointed by the movie, but everyone else I know liked it so it's probably just me.

It details Keel and other witnesses' phone harassment, stuff like you're talking about, faraway or metallic voices saying strange things, and links it to MIB and interdimensional activity. Also mysterious doubles, and people claiming to be reporters/detectives who were most likely not human. Spooky.
