It is interesting that so many religious or cultural prophecies converge around 2012, but they also are concerned more with the end of one cycle and the beginning of another. IMO, tptb sensationalized 2012 in order to keep us worried about that instead of paying attention to what is going on HERE and NOW. At this point something is bound to happen in December of 2012, whether it was foretold hundreds or thousands of years ago or because WE made it a self-fulfilling prophecy.
The only thing we learn from history is that we don't learn from history.

its interesting to note too that ones cataclysmic event foretold in a prophecy could be nothing more then a meteorite hitting the earth and causing a "great " upheaval when in fact it could just be a normal planetary impact but to a culture that defines what it sees through its current era symbolism it could be a big deal ..i do believe that some people do have the ability of foresight so one really has to step out of the paranoia and not take everything as verbatim

No, but it is the end/beginning of the Mayan Calendar, along with half a dozen other astronomical occurances.

The Mayan Calendar is based on astronomical alignments. Many argue the differences in calendars... but it doesn't matter. It's all based on star movement.

winter solsice, or dec 21 and the 2012 year are when the earth crosses the plane of the galaxy... it only happens twice every time the earth fully circles the galaxy. Most of the time we are either above the plane or below the plane... very much like a frequency wave.

1) passing through the plane of the galaxy and the galaxies black hole ejections happens on 2012.
2) all the planets align on the opposite side of the sun on 2012.
3) we complete 1 whole trip around the galaxy.
4) planet Nibiru is scheduled to pass through the inner solar system in 2012.
5) the sun reaches it's solar maximum on 2012 AND it's said to be 4 times worse than predicted.

It should be a seriously wicked time.... however, it won't be the end. that's just silly.
It will probably be the end of our digital economy. - which in itself is pretty serious.
It probably will be the end of hundreds of thousands of lives... again serious.
however, I think it will only be a precursor to uglier times (still not the end of the world)
plague, war, armageddon etc. Issac Newton put armageddon at 2060, I think that's a very interesting date. (but still not the end of the world).

I don't think so... However, don't be influenced of other people's opinions! Have your own! :flop:

I don't think it will be the end of the world, it may just be another regular day or it may be a day where SOMETHING happens such as ET arriving or being revealed or some kind of spiritual awakening or some kind of spiritual realm being opened. But definately not the end of the world. :sunny: Maybe the Mayans were counting the days till their gods arrive and that's why they stopped at 2012 because that's when their gods(ET) will usher in a new age.

Much like in the late 1970's there was a spat of films and TV shows about Earthquakes and disasters of all sorts, nuclear war and such. Then it seemed there was lull, suddenly movies about astroids and other celestial hazards were all the rage, followed by tyrannical fascist regimes rising up to enslave the populace were in fashion...then along came the Matrix...whoa! Now it seems we're right back on track spinning yarns about how everything we've done is going to turn on us and bite us in the ass. Mayan this and Tibetan that and Indiana Jones versus the aliens...WTF? Human beings are quite adept at scaring the shit out of ourselves, all the while there are some amazing developments going on all around us.
The moon is exposing itself to be a whole lot more interesting than we ever imagined, the mysteries of science seem more tangible than ever before...as a species we've evolved some rather complex notions for ourselves, patting ourselves on the backs and turning a blind eye to the hardships that still exist in our own backyards. We place faith in facsimilles of leaders we deify. We point angry fingers at our effigy figureheads and bury our heads in gravel.
My mother once asked me about my career and how I was dealing with the recession, she was sincere and worried(like any mother), and I replied, rather flippantly, Who cares? in 2012 we'll all be dead anyway. She failed to find the humor in my retort. In 1999 I read an article in Sky 7 Telescope about the Eta Carinae star system in which many seasoned astronomers theorized that the heat of Eta Carinae was very likely to go Hyper Nova, thus, emitting gargantuan amounts of Gamma radiation for lightyears in every direction. Further, they hypothisized about how realitively common this occurance actually is, offering that perhaps this phenomenon could be the reason behind the lack of ET contact...just as the interstellar capability is within grasp the system goes HN and all civilization is flushed...wiped out.
These prospects though frightful, also offer this great opportunity to embrace the true essence of "god". In effect to be one with all the universe in a grand, collective unification in cataclysmic singularity. perhaps I'm waxing waaaay to philosophical right now but in reality whatever comes, comes. It is what it will be. The government can't save you, I doubt they'd even try. "God" is a far off notion that will offer solace in the final moments, if your lucky.
In the end we love, we lose and whatever happens, happens panic if you must...it's been a good run.

nah man... nah
Not a shred of evidence exists in favor of the idea that life is serious.
