Mep seems to think that we were "meant for each other." Just because we look a lot a-like. Well, except when he's wearin' his "special" ninja undies. (I don't sport the pinks.)

Hello Kitty!
Can you give a source for your statistics? Just curious. If true, then I would probably feel differently about it.
Thanks Lisa

Hawk

do you have statistics to prove my anecdote differently? and if so, whats the de facto dif anyway?

Actually the whole teenage boy thing was the truth....in the past when it really was just teenage boys. Those teenage boys have grown up and many still play some games. Females are actually the largest growing market for games and you are seeing that in games such as this Dragon Age in that they have these bits of romance thrown in.

Adults play alot of games and in hard times they play even more because it actually makes sense financially.

For what it's worth Seahawk, I wanted to lay out of this and let it take it course becaue my response was polarizing, and I initiated it that way because I didn't feel the amount of outrage for this sort of thing (the gratuitous sex seen in a video game).

I wasn't a fan of Madonna and Brittany kissing on national TV, or Janet Jackson's wardrobe mishap.

What's not a big deal to me or others our age, I hold as a huge deal for kids.

I'm sorry for my brashness towards you. I still think the video game was a sick jab.

BTW - I read that poem. I was very impressed and wanted to commend you on it. I heard all types of music around it.

You should run it through CornBread - see if he has anything to put with it. It'd be cool.

I don't understand the underlined portion of the sentence, did you forget to add a word or two, or am I just not getting it?

That's O.K. Spock. It's definately understandable that issues like this can be very difficult and challenging to discuss with any kind of opposition. In this case, it was even more so, because even though it should have registered more significantly with me at the very beginning of the thread, the fact that two different issues were at hand, was not at the forefront of my mind. I think that this fact tended to muddle the overlapping opinions/ issues, so that it became impossible for there to be any kind of resolution to the matter. One was either on one side or the other, and nothing was going to change that.

Some, including myself, were arguing for the equality issue, and basic fairness for all human beings, and some were against it- those that think that gays are abominations, plain and simple, and didn't really even consider the concern for children. Others were debating, first and foremost, out of concern for their children. That's were it became difficult, for me at least, to keep the two separate. To me, the issues were very distinctly separate in one respect- (gay rights and security of children)- yet tightly fused together in another respect- ( because both were concerns regarding this one specific video game.) That makes rational and clear debate difficult for anyone, from either side.

I tried to make it clear that the wellfare of any and all children is a very important concern for me, yet I was arguing the equality issue. Those with children were arguing from that viewpoint, and didn't want to hear anything else. I can understand that, really I can. It just seemed, though, that some of those folks were only concerned about the gay sex, and didn't make it about sex in general- gay or straight. That just seemed irrational to me. As if some were aiming their animosity towards gays, while standing behind the security of their children to, legitimize their hatred- which really seemed unfair to me. They weren't saying that they thought that the games should not contain sex, they were saying that they didn't think that the games should contain gay sex- so they seemed, in this, to delute their argument with questionable statements- as if they were fighting two battles at once- if you know what I mean.

What's not a big deal to me or others our age, I hold as a huge deal for kids.

I can understand that. But no one was saying, for example, "I have nothing against gay rights, or gay people, but I don't want my children exposed to any kind of sex in video games. Period." Now, I could easily have said that myself, as I have no problem with that what-so-ever, and would not have opposed it in any way. Would you put yourself in this category,or no? Just to clarify.

I'm sorry for my brashness towards you. I still think the video game was a sick jab.

Yeah, and I was being so nice to you. ; > } (Not.)

S'all good, Spock,

Cheers,

Hawk

That's O.K. Spock. I won't hold you to answer that last post. I misunderstood, and thought that you wanted to finish the discussion. Mybad! No problem.
You seem to want to remain somewhat vague on part of the issue, so I will respect that.

Take Care,

Hawk
