Ironman, that cartoon says it all, It reminds me of 1999 when all the computers were going to crash and create an end of the world.

All that cartoon says is that modern man is arrogant and thinks he knows what the mayas and other ancient cultures were thinking...when he doesnt. Its typical western thinking and its flawed...very flawed. Until modern man can reproduce one of those pyramids...Im going to side with the ancients and say they knew something we dont. If we knew everything..there wouldnt be a need for this site at all

I don't hink that they are all like that with full bodies. I recall heraing that some had been toppled in antiquity. This would not have been possible if two thirds of it was still under ground. Perhaps the full ones date to a much earier period. When the latter people wanted to copy them the only thing that they saw were the heads, which still remained above groud, and so this is what they created. However, he head of the Moa dose not appear to have much additional weathering so perhaps this is not a valid theory.

The moai excavation photo is real and it was taken in the 50's. The book is called Aku-Aku and it is by Thor Heyerdahl.
