Yeah, I was reading last night about all the stray dogs they're murdering so as not to "embarrass" Sochi. I feel bad for the kids who train so hard to get in the Olympics, but it seems like at best this is going to be a joke. At worst…well, I'm just hoping nobody gets blown up.

IF there is a terror attack, I already have a thread started about that.
If not...

Shambles behind the scenes at Sochi
It may be the world's most expensive Olympic Games to date, costing a record $50 billion, but the first arrivals at Sochi have revealed the utter chaos two days before the official opening...

I feel the same way... Really hoping the Opening Ceremony changes the atmosphere of all of this...

Sochi Official: Our Shower Surveillance Footage Says Hotels Are Fine!

Oh, well in that case... wait, WHAT?

By now, you've surely heard the harrowing stories about how the Sochi Olympic village is a hellscape of stray dogs, weird toilets, and unfinished accommodations. Well, according to the Russian official in charge, everything's cool! And he has the surreptitious surveillance footage to prove it.

The WSJ reports that Russian deputy prime minister Dmitry Kozak is downright peeved at visiting journalists from the west. He claims the journos are deliberately trying to sabotage the Olympics as well as to undermine Russia's international reputation by sending back false reports that depict Sochi's often amusing lack of preparation for the games. So far, they've only received 108 "registered" complaints. According to Kozak, it's all a sham. Consider what the hidden surveillance cameras have detected:

"We have surveillance video from the hotels that shows people turn on the shower, direct the nozzle at the wall and then leave the room for the whole day," he said. An aide then pulled a reporter away before Mr. Kozak could be questioned further on surveillance in hotel rooms. "We're doing a tour of the media center," the aide said.

See, the 100,000 people being put up by the government in Sochi have nothing to worry about. Sochi's hotels aren't in shambles. The surveillance systems work just fine.

Okay then!

5 Awful Stories You Haven't Heard About the Winter Olympics

Good news, figure skating fans: The Winter Olympics are starting this week in the Russian city of Sochi! You can look forward to two weeks of people in tight jumpsuits spinning and sleds being used for things that would blow Charles Foster Kane's mind. Oh, and also, soul-killing clandestine bullshit.

See, all Olympics have unexpected horrors they don't want you to know about, but this being Russia, they just had to take it to another level...
