Recently I was part of a discussion among theologians. These church men were discussing the matter of transsubstantiation, that is bread and wine in the lord`s supper become real flesh and blood of Christ.
Usually I avoid having part in such debates, but this time it was really a fairy tale event.
The question was on the right words being talked over the act of transsubstantiation. It must be according Luther, most of them said. Do it in Greek or Aramaic, I said. No, they replyed, we must follow a certain tradition.
Then they talked about holy communion after church in case someone wants to visit the sick ones. Must I speak the words of transsubstantiation again in the home of a sick one?
The question behind it was the effects of the spoken words - does it stop at the church door?
Look, this is the weird thing of many church men. They consider biblical words and costumes as magic and theurgy. Thus they make the good case of healing words and rites a matter of inferiority complex expression called pressure or - more delicately - offering, as though there is something to offer. Unbelievable...

As far as I'm concerned, from Voodoo to Lutheranism: it has to be the "Living Word" for it to be effective.

Didn't the Ancient Egyptians, with their 'pagan' religion believe in the magic power of words and symbols?

Oh well, nothings changed much on the religion front in the last 5,000 years.

"And the Word was made flesh, and dwelled among us..."
Light is consciousness (masculine principle), matter is feminine and the human mind is also feminine in nature (according to the Kabbalists and others).
What does that make sound, then? Masculine or feminine?
And why would the human mind be considered as feminine? (It gives "mind-fucking" a new connotation, no?)
Was the "Word", as a creative force, associated with light or sound, or both?
Can matter exist without light?
Just a few quick questions I'm sure you'll have no trouble answering, folks.
