Did you see it? Chopper 2 HD sure did.

It was a bizarre, glowing red-hot streak in the sky — right at sunset Wednesday — moving briskly behind the Manhattan skyline.

CBS 2 reached out to a top astronomer who looked at the video. He said it looks beautiful, but that is was like nothing more than what’s known as a “contrail” — condensation from a commercial or military jet.

The aliens, apparently, are not coming.

The sighting came one day after a mysterious condensation trail was spotted off the coast of California. Speculation over the object that caused it ranged from a fired missile to a contrail from a commercial airliner.

Most experts now believe an airplane caused that vapor trail.

What went down over the skies of NYC Wednesday was just the latest in a series of weird events that have captivated tri-state area residents over the last few years. Back on Oct. 13, CBS 2 cameras captured objects in the sky while shooting up above Chelsea at 23rd Street and Eighth Avenue.

Local media and the NYPD received several calls throughout that afternoon.

However, as CBS 2 cameras showed, the objects appeared to be yellow balloons, although there was initially no official confirmation from the NYPD. On the streets below there was a lot of intrigue about the mystery that was going on up above.

it appears as if it was sunset. I can see a rather dense bit of cloud, being lit by a bright orange, sunset sun, might look like a streak of fire in the sky?

They say it was moving, but there's no video. And they went pretty quickly back to the mass sighting, which received large amount of speculation, at best. They reposted an old story, and didn't give any details about the new one..

I'd say this is an MSM bump of the old story, using the CA mystery launch as credible backing. Normally I don't do this, but I'm gonna go ahead and say BS, based on this story and photo.

“contrail” seems to be the new weather balloon/swamp gas.

Obviously this is a contrail.

Savwa, maybe I'm missing it, but there is no video there.. just one shitty still.

In it's favor, there are reports from all over the continent about fireballs.. but if you were a news heli pilot, don't you think you'd chase that thing down, or atleast get more than a few still images?

They're either not tellling us all the details, or they are making this into more of a big deal that it is.

interesting that the "contrail's" length remains fairly consistent and there seem to be regular pulsations rippling through it

Okay, now the video decides to show up.. It wasn't there the first few times I looked at the page for some reason.

Anyway... it does move rather fast. Do modern military craft even have a contrail? i would think that would blow the whole stealth thing haha

Maybe it's not bs, but this video really doesn't show that well what is going on.. maybe if some amatuer video shows up to corrolate.. it still looks like a cloud. there's nothing in the sky to judge.. i can see it being fabricated to try and pick up on the buzz of last months nyc sighting.. i dunno. =P
