'Formation' Videos from Mexico, the US and Iceland

Here, Third Millenium's Jaime Maussan gathers a number of formation videos that are difficult to explain. They are probably not flocks of geese with the motion sped up because their positions hardly vary, and the one shot over Mexico in January has an outlier flying with a formation of 7 objects that moves in exactly synch with them.

I'm always impressed with these night flyers especially when they fly in the capital A formation as I know that birds don't fly in that sort of tight formation. They do fly at night generally in a loose V formation. You can always tells it's birds as they hustle for the best place in the V formation so they share the front place which is the worst place to fly in the formation so you will see it change from time to time. Flying behind the and to the right or left of the leader saves energy as you have less drag due to the vortex the leaders wings create. I have never seen bids fly in a capital A formation as there is no advantage to the bird in the middle.
