Giant Ring around the moon!?

I'm about 30 miles south of you and I was out from around 8pm to just after midnight and I didn't see the halo around the moon. conditions must of been just right where you are.

It is quite a common optical phenomena.

I have once seen a very strong what I believe to be a chemical halo around the sun here in Gladstone from chemsprays which they do regularly here and I can watch the them from my pool as they float over slowly. This is an example from Sydney of a chemhalo.

Makes me wonder if the same thing can happen with moon light but with your weather it could very well be ice crystals who knows.

I copied your image into paint
resized the image to 750 X 500(i think)
saved it into a compatible format.
I then uploaded to DTV and embedded it.

Took all of about 5 mins.
