Gigantic Motherships And Other Bizzare Anomalies Near Saturn
Saturn's Amazing Moons Prometheus and Hyperion
This small moon is extremely elongated, measuring about 119 by 87 by 61 km.
It has several ridges and valleys and a number of impact craters of
about 20 km diameter are visible

This image of Prometheus was acquired by the Voyager 2 spacecraft on August 25, 1981.

This image is a shaded relief map of Prometheus,
the inner F Ring Shepherd satellite of Saturn.

Prometheus Steals the Ring, or Forges It
In Greek legend, Prometheus steals fire from the gods to give to man.
Unfortunately the story is misunderstood because the "fire of the gods"
was electrical. The similarity of an electric discharge to fire lies in the fact
that both are a plasma. However, an electrical discharge in a plasma may
be invisible, unlike most flames. There is a plasma discharge mode
known as a "dark discharge". It may be felt as a wind, or
movement of particles in the direction of the electric field.
It will be familiar as the breeze from an air ionizer.

Pictured above is Saturn's little moon Prometheus,
nestled inside the gas giant's F ring. The report accompanying
the image says, "In an image taken on Oct. 29,
Prometheus is seen stealing particles from the F ring while
connected to the ringlets by a faint streak of material.
Saturn's moon Prometheus and the F ring by Cassini
Scientists are not sure exactly how Prometheus is interacting
with the F ring here, but they have speculated that the moon might
be gravitationally pulling material away from the ring.
Scientists speculate that the ring particles may end up in a
slightly different orbit from the one they were in prior to
getting a 'kick' from the moon. These kicks occur at specific
locations in the rings and can actually cause large waves or knots to form.
In the still image, gaps in the diffuse inner strands are seen.
All these features appear to be due to the influence of Prometheus
in ways that are not fully understood.
Moon Prometheus slowly collides with Saturn's F ring.
The moon Prometheus slowly collides with the diffuse inner
edge of Saturn's F ring in this movie sequence of Cassini images.
The oblong moon pulls a streamer of material from the ring and
leaves behind a dark channel.
But is Prometheus stealing material from the rings or is it losing material
to the rings in a comet-like electrical discharge?
Is Prometheus undergoing electric discharge machining (EDM)
and providing fine dusty material for the F Ring? The same process
could account for the odd discovery that Saturn's A and B rings are clean water
ice while the Cassini division between them is very dirty.
There was probably a small moon orbiting there which has recently
been machined to dust.
Saturn's Strangest Moon

The Cassini spacecraft swooped in just 310 miles above the surface
to get this closest ever view of Saturn's moon Hyperion.
About 178 miles in diameter, the irregularly shaped satellite circles Saturn
in a tumbling rotation. It's been theorized that Hyperion's odd shape
was caused long ago by collisions with other objects in space.
Hyperion's cratered surface, however, is a revelation; none of
Saturn's other 46 moons look similar.
Most of the images we had of Hyperion looked like
something like this:

Nasa's Cassini's spacecraft was able to
capture this incredible image:

Scientists are now studying the new images to help clear up questions about Hyperion's origins.

These stunning images of Saturn taken by Nasa's Cassini spacecraft show
the ringed planet, its moons and rings in the most incredible detail yet

One of Saturn's moons, Rhea, passes in front of the planet's largest moon,
Titan (lit from behind by the Sun). The Cassini mission found Titan to
have parallels with Earth.

This bizarre scene shows the cloud-streaked area of Saturn in front of
the planet's B ring. The ring's image is warped by the diffuse gas in
Saturn's upper atmosphere

Secrets Of Saturns Strangest Moon
When the Voyager 2 spacecraft sped through the Saturnian system more than a quarter of a century ago, it came within 90,000 kilometers of the moon Enceladus.
Over the course of a few hours, its cameras returned a handful of images that confounded planetary scientists for years. Even by the diverse standards of Saturn's satellites, Enceladus was an outlier. Its icy surface was as white and bright as fresh snow, and whereas the other airless moons were heavily pocked with craters, Enceladus was mantled in places with extensive plains of smooth, uncratered terrain, a clear sign of past internally driven geologic activity. NASA's Cassini spacecraft tasted and sampled a surprising organic brew erupting in geyser-like fashion from Saturn's moon Enceladus during a close flyby on 12th March 2008. Scientists are amazed that this tiny moon is so active, "hot" and brimming with water vapor and organic chemicals.
New heat maps of the surface show higher temperatures than previously known in the south polar region, with hot tracks running the length of giant fissures. Additionally, scientists say the organics "taste and smell" like some of those found in a comet. The jets themselves harmlessly peppered Cassini, exerting measurable torque on the spacecraft, and providing an indirect measure of the plume density.

Saturns Deathstar Iapetus

A look at some of the anomalies on Iapetus. To me, the anomalies suggest that Iapetus is partly or wholly artificial in nature. What is interesting is that NASA largely ignore the anomalies and following the close flyby of Iapetus in 2007, the images released were less interesting than those captured from much further away in 2004. Why does NASA ignore the most interesting data like the very unusual linear/bisecting nature of "The Wall" from its probes?
