The longstanding notion of US exceptionalism has deep roots in the American psyche, but as the world experiences a "tectonic shift in global geopolitics" the very idea of Washington's superiority is being challenged, analyst Eric Draitser told RT.

Earlier this week, President Barack Obama reaffirmed Washington's desire to engage in the affairs of other states, particularly in the Middle East.

"I believe America must remain engaged for our own security. But I also believe the world is better for it. Some may disagree, but I believe that America is exceptional -- in part because we have shown a willingness, through the sacrifice of blood and treasure, to stand up not only for our own narrow self-interest, but for the interests of all," Obama said in his address to the UN General Assembly in New York.

Analyst Eric Draitser believes Obama's statement has nothing to do with the situation in Syria, but rather is about US-Russia political rivalry and a direct response to Russian President Vladimir Putin, who recently addressed the American nation through one of the most respected US media outlets, The New York Times.

This is the story of Rawan Milad Al-Dah, a young Syrian girl explaining how she was repeatedly raped and abused by members of Syrian rebel factions.

In a related article, Mariem Karoui writes the following about such devastating occurrences:

"A problem remains to be exposed. All human rights activists following this story voice their concerns about the case of these women and their offspring. Concerns are being expressed that the situation will soon become an explosive matter, making it necessary to treat these pending files with urgency.

"An overwhelming majority of these sexual Jihadist women are shunned by their families for the scandal they brought on them...

"Such terrible cases should not be swept under the carpet. Unless authorities act on them with great scrutiny, they will only worsen. Serious measures should be taken to assist victims, and recruiters should be identified and arrested, to allow the judiciary to carry out its duty."

Who Is Marc Grossman?

When Hillary Clinton appointed Marc Grossman as US Special Envoy News coverage of the appointment dutifully noted Grossman's long career at the State Department and past accomplishments, including his appointment as Career Ambassador by President Bush in 2004 and his Secretary of State Distinguished Service Award in 2005. Carefully excised from this glowing praise, however, was any mention of his early exit from Turkey before the end of his scheduled appointment as US Ambassador, the decade-long FBI investigation into Grossman's conduct at the State Department, the accusations of bribes and string pulling, his involvement in the nuclear spying ring identified by a landmark 2008 Sunday Times investigation, or, as we examined last week, his role as the first person to actually blow Valerie Plame's cover by warning Turkish officials of Brewster Jennings & Associates' role as a CIA front.

Fresh clashes have erupted in Syria between secular rebels and Al CIAda-linked extremists. It's the latest spate of infighting among the anti-Assad camp, which has seen a rapid rise of radicals in their numbers. Western analysts put the total number of rebels at around a hundred thousand. They're split into as many as a thousand different groups. Ten thousand fighters are radical jihadists with links to Al CIAda. Up to 35 thousand others are hardline Islamists, who share many of Al CIAda's views. That leaves the more moderate rebels vastly outnumbered. Let's get reaction from independent news editor James Corbett.

As we've examined in this special investigative series on the Plame affair, the official story of the "leaking" of Plame's identity is itself a sham. Richard Armitage may have been Novak's source, but even Fitzgerald's investigation confirmed that the first documented leak of Plame's status came from Marc Grossman, the number three in Colin Powell's State Department. And as FBI whistleblower Sibel Edmonds confirmed in sworn testimony, Grossman had exposed Brewster Jennings & Associates—the phony company that Plame and other counter-proliferation operatives were using as their employment cover—as a CIA front a full two years before the whole scandal broke, in 2001. Grossman later went on to be a key witness in the Libby trial.

So why did the DOJ proceed with an investigation when they already knew who was responsible for leaking Plame's identity? Who appointed Fitzgerald to the position of Special Counsel, and what are his ties to the case? Why didn't Libby's lawyers bring these questions up during their client's prosecution? And what does federal judge Reggie Walton have to do with all of this? Join us on this week's Eyeopener report as we delve into these important questions.
