Well, this is number 2 in my planned series about incidents of paranormal oddities, and hopefully, one that will entertain and inform, presented here as a précis of what we know - this one is about the mysterious phenomenon known as:
The strange tale of Spring-Heeled Jack.

A nice introduction on vid:
The story begins thus:
"One of the most curious and persistent of all paranormal creatures is Spring Heeled Jack. Reports of his existence date back to the early 19th century in Sheffield, England, and he has been reported on and off in England and the US as recently as 1995. A similar apparition, called "La Viuda," or "the widow" was reported in Chile in the 1940s and 50s, though he seemed to have been motivated by theft as much as mischief. And while a decent case can be made that the legend of Spring Heeled Jack is nothing more than a series of cruel hoaxes, it would represent a conspiracy of impressive scope and durability. And while his story changes from source to source, it goes something like this…"
"The first sighting may have occurred in September of 1837 in London, England. A businessman was returning home from work late at night when a mysterious figure vaulted over the railings of a nearby cemetery. The railings were at least 10 feet high but the creature effortlessly leaped over the wall and landed directly in the path of the strolling man. The creature was described as having pointed ears, large glowing eyes, and a large pointed nose.
A short time later, Spring Heeled Jack was said to have attacked a group of people - 3 women and 1 man. All ran but Polly Adams, who was left behind. Spring Heeled Jack tore off the top of her blouse, grabbed her breasts, and began clawing at her stomach. The attack knocked Polly unconscious where she lay until being discovered by a policeman patrolling his beat."

From there, several more sightings and attacks took place, with Spring heeled Jack always escaping his persuers, with phenomenal leaps, clearing walls and fences at ease, and now there were reports of 'devil' eyes, fire from his mouth, and using hands that resembled steel claws!
A witness declared:
"He wore a large helmet and a sort of tight-fitting costume that felt like oilskin. But the cape was just like the ones worn by the policemen. His hands were as cold as ice and like powerful claws. But the most frightening thing about him was his eyes. They shone like balls of fire."
The incidents became more serious in nature, especially against young women, and Spring Heeled Jack became a legend of terror and horror.
People even shot at him, with no apparant effect!
"Spring Heeled Jack was seen hurdling over several houses. As in the Aldershot episode, residents fired at him with shotguns to no avail. These witnesses claimed that the shots did hit Spring Heeled Jack and sounded like they were hitting some sort of metallic object."
The final appearances recorded was described thus:
"In September 1904, South of Liverpool in England, Spring Heeled Jack appeared on the roof of a church. He was spotted hanging on the steeple of St. Francis Xaviers on Salisbury Street. Onlookers claimed he suddenly dropped from the steeple and fell to the ground. Thinking that he had committed suicide, they rushed to the point where he had landed (behind some houses) only to find a helmeted man, clothed in white, standing there waiting. He scuttled towards the crowd, raised his arms, and took to the air over William Henry Street.
The final recorded event occurred in 1920 at the Central Railway Station in London. A man in a white cloak was seen jumping back and forth from rooftop to the street below."

So what do we have here?, another 'urban legend' - but we have several witnesses and physical evidence of the entity, newspaper reports from the time and lot's of investigations as to what Spring Heeled Jack may have been.
Was he a prankster, as suggested in the opening Video?
Was he an alien!?
Was he a demonic spirit or other world creature?
Was he one of the world's first costumed anti -superhero's?
Whatever Spring Heeled Jack was, The strange tales that surround him still entertain and puzzle us to this day..............
