Don't rush through extreme web laws

"Peter Mandelson is rushing to force the Digital Economy Bill into law before the General Election. The draconian law is opposed by industry experts, internet service providers (like TalkTalk and BT), web giants including Google, Yahoo and Ebay and even the British Library. Despite all this opposition, the Government is trying to rush it through quietly just before the election without proper debate – without a chance for us to voice our opposition. Email your MP now and urge them to stop the government rushing this law through.

There’s plenty to oppose in the Digital Economy Bill, it gives the government the ability to disconnect millions. Schools, libraries and businesses could see their connection cut if their pupils, readers of customers infringe any copyright. But one group likes it, the music industry. In a leaked memo a few days ago they admitted the only way to get the bill through would be to rush it through without a real parliamentary debate. Let’s stop that happening.

Write to your MP now urging them to stop the Government rushing the bill through. It’ll take you less than 2 minutes. Just enter your postcode above (so we can find your MP) and click “participate” to get started."

Do it now! Speak out. At least try and make a difference!

nice one badger.
Is there anyway you can help keep this in the 'hot topic' section on the front page?
This could impact dtv in a big way for UK users. And i for one want to do everything i can to keep such important sites as this freely available to all.
We need to get as much support for this as quickly as possible.

Why don't you put a link to it in your signature?

Wouldn't be fair to give this thread preferential treatment, especially as there hasn't been too many replies. :flop:

i dont post here enough for it to make a difference as my sig.
surely your given reason is exactly why it should be given preferential treatment!?

or you may be saying goodbye to the uk users very soon!
and if the uk sets a benchmark, along with spain, france, australia, china etc, it wont be long untill we kiss goodbye to dtv for good!

Iceland seems to be the only country standing up for our rights...

I, myself am a UK user.
And no, I don't want the laws to be passed without debate. This government has pushed through too much without consulting the people and we need to take action against it.

However, I do not have the ability to keep it in the hot topics. so it will have to run it's course just like the other threads.

Sorry.
