"Increase driven by huge rise in youth unemployment
1.58 million now claiming Jobseekers' Allowance
Britain must create 2million new jobs, says think tank
Prime Minister dismayed by 'disappointing figures'
More bad news came for the UK economy today as it was announced
that the unemployment rate has seen its biggest rise for two years.
The rise in unemployment was driven by a surge in the number of
jobless young people.
And a new report says that two million new jobs must be created if
Britain is to return to full employment."

I cannot see a way out of this situation under the present system of governance.
Britain currently has a superfluous labour market; and with most menial jobs being taken up by migrants from Eastern Europe, the chances for Britain's youth to gain employment are becoming lesser by the day. Even graduates - apart from those who attend the more prestigious universities - have an extremely hard time gaining employment after graduation.
I graduated two years ago with an MA in Maritime History, and I had an extremely hard time getting employment.
I suppose with hindsight, I should have done something more practical, but my love for history got the better of me I suppose.
This situation will only worsen. Hitherto, there is no chance of a major aberration away from the current path.
I suspect that the riots of last month are just a foretaste of things to come.

A nice thought, but isn't going to happen under the present system
I am not entirely sure there is a solution that can be fashioned under the present parameters of government.
Firstly, Britain would have to pull of out the EU.
Britain is not the power we once were, so we have to stop wasting resources on far-flung wars that, for the most part, have no over-all strategic aim.
Most important of all, Britain needs politicians who actually care for their constituents, as opposed to serving supra-national corporate interests. Granted, a few MP's try to do the job they are elected for; but once they fall out of party line, they are normally sidelined. Ergo we face a situation where there are no good me or women left in the mainstream political arena. All are sullied or to weak to act on their own volition.

Sad but true my friend.
I just finished 'Sharp's Trafalgar' by Bernard Cornwell.
Those were the days, when Britain was truly great, and honour and riches could be found.
If I had the choice, I would have liked to have been born in that era.
Theme from Sharp's.
Gives me goose bumps lol

well said. Maybe the change we seek is around the corner. I hope people starting waking up and realize the dandy world they think they live in isn't all that dandy after all...

You are right. This problem afflicts us all. What does me is the injustices. People are ripped off by the system on a daily basis without much recourse.
What puzzles me, and has done since an early age, is the absurdities we just take for granted. Surely, if the will was present, we could, as a species, redress the wrongs wrought, and carve a better world and society for all. I know it sounds fanciful, but when you think about it, it is only us who prevents it. If the majority actually woke up and realised that a change to our current path of hopelessness was now a necessity, I'm sure it could happen. But we are too greedy and self absorbed a species for that to happen any-time soon.
I know I sound pessimistic, but you only have to read the constant stream of doom-mongering on this site to realise that most people are more concerned with things that are not in their power to change, as opposed to being concerned about things they can actually have an influence on.

englands fucked imo, its fate is directly linked to the eurozone which is on the verge of collapse, the germans cant keep bailing out bankrupt countries like greece and the republic of ireland, france and spain look to be on their knees , if ireland goes under england lose half of their exports overnight and on top of that theres going to be the biggest mass walkouts in generations, remember those kids that wrecked london a month ago ? only a few thousand did all that damage, what will happen when their parents take to the streets in their millions? anarchy approaches
