Maybe old Adolf should have studied Geography more. He seemed to think England encompassed all of the 'British' isles. He also used the term, Anglo-Saxon, or Anglo-American. Victorian England viewed the German race as the saviors of England; for it was the Germanic races that came to England after the Romans left and brought order and a system of governance that brought about the nation of England. Just 30's years later, the Germans' were portrayed as the enemy. All talk of the English being of German origin was considered anathema - even the Royal family had to get rid of their German name - and the term Briton and Britishness took precedent in the state run propaganda.

Politics is played at the highest levels. Nation states and patriotism are just a tool they use to stir the masses into confrontation. It has always been that way, and probably always will until humanity reaches a level of consciousness that overcomes our third dimensional parameters.
