Hollywood and alien movies

Hey,

I've been following you guys for quite some time now, I finally decided to register and be part of the DTV community. :)

So I'm going to start to talk about something that my girlfriend and I (yes, everything I know about what goes on DTV she knows) been thinking about movies about aliens, ghosts, etc.

Does Hollywood make movies about alien invasions (for example) so that we think in our subconscious that they are a real threat if they actually appear in real life?
