Brain scans of people under the influence of the psilocybin, the active ingredient in magic mushrooms, have given scientists the most detailed picture to date of how psychedelic drugs work. The findings of two studies being published in scientific journals this week identify areas of the brain where activity is suppressed by psilocybin and suggest that it helps people to experience memories more vividly....

Hey, mushrooms might have more to do with the spiritual aspect of a person, than being "mind expanding." Though scientists did discover DNA while dosed up with LSD.

I do not think you either ate enough, or ate the right kind.
I've heard people try and say that they've ate so many mushrooms that they don't do anything for them. Yet when they did a fresh dose when they went to amsterdam last year they lost their mind.

Memorial held for death cap mushroom victims
Updated January 14, 2012
Mourners have gathered at the Harmonie German Club in Canberra for a memorial service for two staff who were fatally poisoned by death cap mushrooms.
Chef Liu Jun, 38, and kitchen hand Tsou Hsiang, 52, died after eating death cap mushrooms in Canberra on New Year's Eve.
The two were working in Australia on temporary visas and had poor English.
It is believed Liu Jun cooked a meal containing the poisonous mushrooms after mistaking them for a Chinese delicacy.
A fundraising appeal for the victims' families has so far raised more than $31,000.
Death caps are one of the deadliest fungi in the world, and are often found under oak trees.
Five people have died from eating death cap mushrooms in Canberra over the past decade.
Members of Canberra's Chinese community plan to meet with ACT Government officials to discuss ways to improve public warnings about poisonous mushrooms.
History:
• Death cap mushrooms are considered the most poisonous in the world and one is enough to kill an adult human.
• Before this week's deaths, three people had died and at least 12 made sick from eating death cap mushrooms in Australia in the past decade.
• Death caps have been involved in the majority of deaths around the world from mushroom poisoning, including that of Roman emperor Claudius.
Appearance:
• Death cap mushrooms are similar in appearance to several species of edible mushrooms commonly used in cooking, such as paddy straw mushrooms and caesar's mushroom.
• Death caps may be white but are usually pale green to yellow in colour, with white gills and a white or pale green stalk up to 15cm long.
• The entire mushroom is poisonous and cooking or peeling the mushroom does not remove toxicity.
Symptoms:
• Death caps are said to taste pleasant and symptoms can occur six to 24 hours after consumption.
• Initial symptoms can include abdominal pain, diarrhoea, vomiting, hypotension and jaundice, followed by seizures, coma, renal failure and cardiac arrest.
Habitat:
• Death cap mushrooms can be found in parts of south eastern Australia, particularly ACT and parts of Victoria.
• They are commonly found near established oak trees and some other hardwood trees and are most common during later summer to early winter after heavy rain or irrigation.
• It is thought death caps were introduced to Australia with the importation of different hardwoods.
Treatment:
• Death caps are extremely poisonous and if consumed it is a medical emergency.
• Anyone who suspects they have eaten a death cap should seek immediate medical attention and where possible take a mushroom sample for identification.

Yeah note for the wise,
fresh mushrooms should blue from bruising with in 15 seconds, and dried mushrooms should definitely have some blueing in them as well. Though that has nothing to do with the potency, it is the only trait dominant in psychoactive mushrooms. (besides amanita muscaria, mario mushroom.)
