How Many Universes Exist in the Multiverse? Physicists May Have a Number

If we do, in fact, live in a multiverse, with multiple universes arising out of the Big Bang, how many are there? Andrei Linde and Vitaly Vanchurin at Stanford University have been working to calculate a number, based on quantum fluctuations in the early state of the universe. Their tally indicates that there are at least 10^10^10^7 universes out there. The human brain, however, could not possibly distinguish between all of those universes, however, as it is only capable of 10^10^16 configurations.

That's a pretty big number there.

A few corrections whilst i stroke my beard
42 is the answer to life, the universe and everything.....The question remains unknown as far as i can remember. (unless it was what is 7 x 6)
It was Marvin that had the brain the size of a planet, deep thought was merely the second most powerful computer in the universe......The first being the Earth.
Did stephen hawkings not postulate that there are 12 or 13 universes that exist side by side like dominoes and wobble. During a wobble cycle between 2 domino universes there was a collision in the middle creating the big bang and our universe. Or something along those lines
Peace

not to interupt your stroking as i do know how nice it feels, the question is answered within itself being 42, 42 is the answer to life, the universe and everything... you said it yourself

According to Chapter 32 page 1 of the HItchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy
"All right" said Benjy. "What do you get if you multiply six by seven?"
"No,No too literal, too factual,"said Frankie, "wouldn't sustain the punters' interest."
Again they thought.
Then Frankie Said, "Here's a thought How many roads must a man walk down?"
"Ah!" said benjy "Aha now that does sound promising!" He rolled the phrase around a little. "Yes" he said, "that's excellent! Sounds very significant with out actually tying you down to meaning anything at all. How many roads must a man walk down? Forty-two. Excellent, excellent, That'll fox 'em. Frankie, Baby we are made!"

How Many Universes Exist in the Multiverse?
All of them...
All of them...

In theory there are an infinite number of universes Every action has an equal but opposite reaction.
How ever something I have been playing with in my mind offers a completely different answer. The number while still large is much easier to handle Here is how my theory works (please note this is just a thought experiment)
First off think of a river. In every river at some point there are rocks, or sandbars, or other items that cause the stream to create minor tributaries that flow along the same course as the original body of water. Eventually those minor tributaries are going to converge with the larger river.
Now think of time is a similar fashion.while each minor tributary having had a different "change" to the time stream. Eventually farther down the time stream the former alternate universes founded by the change of an action, a thought whatever diverged that time stream from its original main body, the alternate universe is then going to converge and cause some minor changes in the "real" time stream. what could cause the universes to converge is beyond me maybe the action was done after the fact and it rectified the stream. there by creating a tangent universe that eventually has to loop back onto the original universe.
As i said I am still working on this as a thought experiment nothing more because it would prove impossible to know if true.
