How Will We Prepare for an Asteroid Impact?

There is this one thing nagging at me about a NEO that I noticed in a story a few years ago and I wish that I had saved the data because it quickly became unavailable.

There was a published story about a NEO that was to take place this year and miss us on its way to circle the sun but the trajectory later indicated a direct collision with Venus. The story outlined how if it did strike the earth it could be a planet killer but made no mention of how a strike on Venus might affect us.

I put the NEO model in to a working orbit model and it showed that the trajectory would have us in a debris field (depending on degree of damage) immediately following the Venus strike for several weeks.

I have wondered since whether the story was pulled due to an error in trajectory reporting or an eventuality from a Venus impact. I’ve seen nothing else about it or even a similar story. Just makes me go hmmmmmm.

Slush, anybody, do you recall seeing anything like that?
