I've always loved alligators. I grew up around them, and they never gave me any reason to fear them, even when, as an idiot kid, I used to taunt them by casting fishing lures on them to try to get a reaction. If they had eaten me, I would have deserved it.
Lucid, you're right, that gator must have been older than most of us to be that big, and he (or she) never ate anybody yet, it's a damn shame they decided to kill it.

had to kill the bloody thing didnt they, why cant they leave things like this alone, we used to have salt water crocodiles of over 25ft, but they were hunted out before they were protected 20yrs ago, there largest recorded now days is about 20ft, and they say it will another 20-30 years before they get over 25ft again.

Damn, so they shot the critter... I can see it stuffed and mounted in some museum, with a caption something like ...this used to be one of the oldest and largest alligators ever found in Alabama ... UNTIL WE SHOT AND KILLED THE MUTHA!!! OH YEA WE BAD !!! urrghh. makes me sick .....

11 feet isnt that big, they get muuuch bigger.. shit here in myrtle beach there is a 20+ft specimen at Alligator Adventure, named Utan. Its basically a reptile/amphibian zoo, pictures dont do him justice he looks prehistoric when you see him in person. I think ill take my girl there on saturday and ill get a picture or two, that has some kind of scale so you can see his size... why not, i get in free, friends dad owns the place :p
