You can see it all over him in this clip.
Probably the most telling thing he ever
participated in his life.

This Biker nailed it and you can see the cowardice
just dripping from him as he's held to account
of breaking his word over a simple case of beer.

It's funny, I don't see the cowardice in standing up to a Hell's Angel beating up a woman while being in a crowd of Hell's Angels. That takes balls.

And what is there in the quotes in the original post that can be argued with? I think he hit the nail on the head, as he often did.

Complicated guy, and not a perfect one, but liar and coward are not the words that spring to my mind concerning him.

Prophet?
Nah...

Astute observer and commentator on American culture and politics?
Yeah...

Ill grant the point in your first sentence alone, i meant to credit that.

Just never liked him or found his writing inspired
and him blowing his head off with his family home
has definitely colored my perception. Cancer or not.

Leaving loved ones to find or clean that up
is borderline evil regardless the reason.

He could have taken pills.

He did have a problem with guns, no doubt. I get your point there.

He was a selfish bastard in a lot of ways.

Agreed.

And Hunter S. Thompson was on his way to writing a book about homosexual prostitution rings in the government before he died.

Suicide also drove Ernst Hemingway to his end, it usually seems the intellectuals can't live in the world they live in, I can't blame them for hating the world, because most of it isn't worth saving let alone investing into...... as for the suicide? people have problems that is all I can say.
