What change my mind was an old interview with him and Dan, and some douchebag interviewer. What I see here is and intelligent young guy.
So my perception has been corrected.
Now I think Gene Shalit was a...quite an interviewer.
People who worked with him on SNL say he was known to deliberately undermine sketches the women writers were developing. There is and always will be tremendous competition on that show about what stuff finally gets on the air, and when the big star is poo pooing something and tanking the lines, that's often enough to kill it.
There's also the business of Belushi being jealous about some bullshit with Gilda Radner and screwing Paul Shaffer our of a role that was specifically written for him in The Blues Brothers.
Sometimes it's tough to meet your heroes.
