i was on my way home today from work when i happened to look up to the sky and see something strange. first off, there was the classic "Rainbow Halo" sometimes seen around the sun, and while i was looking at it, trying not to blind myself, i saw what at first appeared as a ring, of some sort of thick, almost shimmering smoke/cloud.
because of the building i was standing next to, i couldnt see the entire ring, so i walked down the block to peer around the side, and to my surprise, (as if i wasnt already surprised i saw this in the first place) it wasnt a full ring but a half ring. the one end of it looked like it started at the sun, as if to show the orbit of the sun, if that makes sense, and the other didnt point to anything or lead anywhere.
i continued walking home and when i got here i grabbed my camera and took a few pics and a short video showing it from one end to the other. it was still very very visible when i took the pictures and then about five minutes later it disappeared, so from when i first saw it to when it disappeared, about 15 - 20 minutes had passed.
i first noticed it around 4:15pm pst, this is the weather for my city around this time:
Victoria BC, Canada - July 4th 2009
26°C / 78°F
Partly cloudy
* Wind: E 9km/h
* Relative Humidity: 39%
* Pressure: 101.39 kPa
* Visibility: 48.0 km
* Ceiling: 25000 ft
the outer-crest, or i guess the 90 degree mark was facing north, while both tips were facing south. there were a few other clouds in the sky, but all very faint and see-through. a few airliner tails off in the distance, but nothing around that could explain this.
even my neighbor asked me what i was doing when she saw me out on the front lawn taking pictures of the sky. i told her i was ' taking pictures of some weird shit in the sky'. i didnt pay attention if she or her room mate looked as i was very intrigued by what i saw and didnt take my eyes off of the half ring.
i have never seen anything like this here before and thought you guys might like it. one problem though, i am new to all of this and havent figured out how to post pictures and videos.
i was hoping someone could teach me how so i can put the pics up for you guys and gals to see. of course, the camera's quality isnt the best, but i could make then out easily on my computer screen.
(ignore that is says i posted this on july 5th as it is still the fourth were i am, and has only been just over an hour since i saw the half-ring!

i checked out the solar halo, that would be what i described as a "rainbow halo". but the half circle thing started at the sun, or very close to it, i couldnt see cause its damn bright! but yeah, it started a the sun and made a huge half circle that lead to no where.
as soon as i learn how to post images and videos, i will be able to show you
i think i figured it out

i know (as far as i know) there aint many ufo sightings around here, nor is there much info/anything coming from around here... you guys in the uk seem to have a lot, but please share with me what you know about what i have seen (if you have seen things like this), please remember that when i saw it for the first time it was much thicker and shiny, that should make at least a bit of sense to most of you, considering what i have read and witnessed here.... where be cornbread or low6 when ya need them......drex.................
