Iran: We'll 'blow up the heart' of Israel if attacked

"Even if one American or Zionist missile hits our country, before the dust settles, Iranian missiles will blow up the heart of Israel"

Revolutionary Guard official says Iran will destroy Israel if hit by a single U.S. or Israeli missile. Iran would "blow up the heart" of Israel if the Israel or the United States attacked the Islamic Republic, a Revolutionary Guards official said in comments published on Friday.

"Even if one American or Zionist missile hits our country, before the dust settles, Iranian missiles will blow up the heart of Israel," the official IRNA news agency quoted Mojtaba Zolnour as saying. He is a deputy representative of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in the elite Guards force. Iranian officials have also in the past said the country would retaliate in case of any Israeli or U.S attack on it. Earlier this year, a senior commander said Iranian missiles could reach Israeli nuclear sites. Israel is believed to be the only nuclear-armed Middle East state. Irael has not ruled out military action if diplomacy fails to end a dispute over Iran's nuclear ambitions, echoing U.S. policy, although Washington is engaged in a drive to resolve the issue through direct talks with Iran.

The West suspects the Islamic state is covertly seeking to develop nuclear weapons, which Iran denies. "The Zionist regime and the United States cannot risk attacking Iran," Zolnour said in the holy Shi'ite city of Qom on Thursday, citing Iranian military and technological advances, IRNA reported. At talks in Geneva on Oct. 1, Iran agreed with six world powers - the United States, Russia, China, Britain, France and Germany -to give U.N. experts access to a newly-disclosed uranium enrichment plant south of Tehran. Iran and Western powers described talks as constructive and a step forward.
However, underlying tension was highlighted before the meeting when Iran test-fired missiles with ranges that could put Israel and U.S. bases in the Gulf region within reach.

On Wednesday, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said that some states - including France - had offered to provide his country with uranium enriched to 20 percent for use as nuclear reactor fuel, the official IRNA news agency reported. Iran has always insisted on its right to carry out its own enrichment of uranium for a nuclear program which it says is for purely peaceful purposes, mainly to generate electricity. It rejects Western suspicions its real aim is to build an atomic bomb, which would require uranium enriched to around 90 percent. "There have been some proposals by individual countries and groups of countries. We are ready to hold talks with anyone interested. Our experts will soon start talks with those sellers," Ahmadinejad said.

He said Iran could also buy nuclear fuel from the United States, its old enemy. "We want to buy fuel. We can buy it from anywhere and America can be a seller," ISNA news agency quoted him as saying.
