I actually do have an opinion on this, and no it is not "leave google alone" they were clearly funded by sources other than "private interests" (i.e. CIA) and have been doing their bidding for some time now. They are obviously on the "cover up, bury" bandwagon and are spying on, who else? US! they are a fucking Skynet type system(without ai, but hey) gathering and archiving data based on red flags created by agencies. How do you suppose such a small time garage operation blew up so huge, all the while expanding to meet the demands of their usage? This was a clandenstine operation and it has more to it than just a free service to people.

Google did not remove themselves from China, they moved to a re-directory in Hong Kong, and still operated in china during that time, it was the Chinese that censored them...LMAO!

Ya I was making the point that Google wasn't doing any censoring it was the Chinese government that was and is. Google refused to go along with that the censorship.

Plain and simple I disagree with the OP. Google isn't trying to take over the world they are damn good at what they do. Let's put our focus on the real forces that are actively trying to make power grabs like banking institutions and oil producers.

yes in one circumstance you were right about them not being the ones censoring, but they didn't move and weren't completely cut off, and "that censorship" is the keyword, that public "communist type of censorship" would be a better phrase in my mind.

I agree and disagree with the OP, I think Google has more potential than they know, or maybe they do know. Then Again my theories are only based on what I have seen and read.

to say Google doesn't have the potential to take over the virtual world though is an understatement to say the least.

So koopa you are not worried in the least about a possible ulterior motive for those annoying little googlecam street cars going around taking pictures of YOUR house?

I for one see that as a complete invasion of privacy for starters, google know far too much already so where can it go from here?
GOOGLE SEARCH yep thats right every search you do is captured ....believe that shit from the off bud,why do you think the adverts you see on some websites are usually relevant to you?
As mentioned DROID PHONES!!! if they are taking pictures of us and our houses and capturing our web searches then what makes you think they aren't monitoring calls?
What else? GOOGLEMAIL you think they wouldn't think twice about capturing every email on a database to draw up a cyber profile of you? OF COURSE THEY WOULD! and why? BECAUSE THEY CAN!!!
We already know the government are snooping on our every move via text and email, now combine humble little google with a secret government takeover and what have you got?
You do the math Koopa but if your last thought on it doesn't boil down to google being a spy with it's nose in every corner then you may one day be one sorry trooper.

sehwut I absolutely agree with the idea that this information can be misused and you make some very solid points that all this information is consolidated and accessible by one company. I think part of me doesn't want to recognize it as a threat because in the grand scheme I feel insignificant but I have to consider that data mining is a powerful tool. I'm a computer scientist and it's part of my job to be able to analyze data sets to gather information. When I think about how much information I have passed via Google throughout the years it does scare me quite a bit. I do not have anything to hide but I still want my privacy it's my god given right.

Honestly, I think the government has access to much more than we can see. For example, I could probably take a few users from disclose and google search their username and find that they use the same one on multiple sites from there I might be able to discover their real identity, location, etc... That's some really scary stuff. Come to think of it here is a list of things Google would know about me:

My job
Where I live
Where I shop
What I am interested in
My cell phone texts, voice, data
Credit information
Banking information
Social Security Number
The list goes on and on...

Damn man that's more than any of my friends and family know... Maybe I should diversify my IT services away from Google.

Tell me how they accidently uploaded everyones personal info.If I walked down my street with some equipment that could gather your infomation from your computer and got pulled over by the police then i would be locked up by now. What equipment accidently spys on people, I do not own anything like it do you. Also whenever i type in their search engine they always ask for my location for some reason after declining hundreds of times suprise suprise my location is now on the screen after i have searchsd for something. Google are not trying to take over the world they just want to spy on it. Why else do the chinese not want it.

You never had any privacy online. Of course, search engines are being used for intelligence-gathering, duh, and by everyone from corporations to alphabet agencies. Google itself is just a tool, not the source of the problem. You gotta dig deeper than that...

Firstly please refrain from taking that high and mighty tone with me I will NOT tolerate it,you may be a mod but you are still a member just like all of us.

Secondly what you stated is in fact common knowledge, however the essence of my thread is that google is guilty...and potentially guilty of so much more.

Uh, the high and mighty tone was taken by you from the get-go, pal. Take a look at your second post to refresh your memory.

I'm sorry, punk, but you have to tolerate me, just as I CHOOSE to do with you, ha ha.
