Current orbital estimate are that Elenin will pass about 34million kilometers from earth later this year. It should be a spectacular show for those of you in the northern hemisphere.

I have read and watched many video's on Elenin. Passing somewhere between us and Mars, I didn't feel to worried. One thing I haven't heard/read....what the he'll is the SIZE/MASS of this damn thing?! That could really make all the difference in the world to me and my lack of concern!
Any one know the answer?

Yeah ........This is my point , This news should be splashed all over the msm , but what is there ..............Nada ,zilch etc .

Comet Elenin was first discovered in December of 2010 and was calculated to pass about 9 AU’S from the Earth. An AU is the distance from the Earth to the Sun so you can see that the comet was not going to be anywhere near the Earth as first projected. But new orbit calculations have the distance down to anywhere from .15 to .25 AU’S. "

No one knows the answer to that yet, it is too far away. However an estimate of its coma is 21000 km in diameter. The core itself will be many times smaller than this.

I did the math on the Jan 5th data which was the most recent I could find. It was 3.65 au from Earth at that time. Since the coma is the gas surrounding a comet and this depends upon distance from the sun, core composition etc it is very difficult to even estimate the core size.

It is not unusual for main stream media to ignore comets until they are very close because the common man has the attention span of a goldfish. It is still six months away from being visible.

We have sufficient data that any concern is extremely minor for now.

nasa vid you posted - towards the end it says 'due to its odd orbit' or something 'there no guarantee that it won't contact earth' or something :ohno:
