'Early this morning police raided the unrecognized Bedouin village of al-Arakib in the Negev, destroyed all 40 of its houses, and evicted more than 300 residents. The residents, mostly children, were left homeless. The unprecedented raid began at about 4:30 in the morning, residents were surprised to wake up surrounded by a huge force of 1,500 police with guns, stun grenades, helmets and shields, including hundreds of Special Riot Police (Yasam) as well as mounted police, helicopters and bulldozers.

At the residents’ call, dozens of left-wing activists and volunteers arrived from all over the country, helping them to offer non-violent resistance. Several residents were bruised and beaten by police, thjough not needing medical attention. One woman demonstrator was detained by the police. The police removed the residents’ property into prepared containers, and bulldozers demolished the residential buildings and sheepfolds and destroyed the residents’ fruit orchards and olive tree groves.

The villagers, mostly children and old people, were left stunned near the destroyed village, shelterless and waterless under the blazing sun.'

So very sad....... Maybe there is some truth to histories portrayed views on the Israelites. With their own country they should be leading with example of peace and means to bridge the gap between diversity.

Israel is a strange place, when I was there a man had set up his home on the beach and they had just left him there with his cats and chickens. You can camp anywhere within reason.

Beduins are nomads and you see many of them living in tents and metal sheds like buildings roaming the land with their animals.

The Negev was largely undeveloped and sparsely populated during Israel's first five decades. In spite of this, Israel has succeeded in becoming a world leader in combating the desert and preventing desertification of fertile lands. Through responsible water and soil conservation programs, Israeli techniques have become models in sustainable land management, with worldwide implications. The Negev Foundation, wishing to follow in the footsteps of David Ben-Gurion, has recognized the potential of the Negev and actively promotes desert agricultural innovation in all its spheres, so that not only will the region become economically viable, but also be attractive for settlement.

Following a visit to Palestine in 1867, Mark Twain described the Negev Desert in his book "The Innocents Abroad" as "a desolation that not even imagination can grace with the pomp of life and action…".

Rarely does one find a country so small with landscapes so varied as in Israel. In this tiny country of approximately 8,000 square miles (a little smaller than the state of New Jersey), it takes a few hours to drive from the snow-capped mountains in the north to arid desert expanses in the south.

All paid for by American tax dollars, and whatever they can still guilt trip the Germans for.
Sorry, a bit cynical about it right now.
It is easy to get fooled.
I was in Las Vegas some time ago. (it's in a desert) The city exists only because the Hoover Dam is nearby and the city can draw water off Lake Mead. The city's economy is run off of money that is made somewhere else and brought in and gambled away. Someone unaware of these simple facts might come to think of Las Vegas as, "A viable environment.."

Yes this is fucked up, but to be fair they are not the only ones who do dispicable things.
Though most others do have reasonable excuses ie that they are very much a third world country.
Little to no education, civil wars etc
