Whether you like Gordon Ramsay or not, or question his motives of jumping on a band wagon which is saving our Ecosystem and animal cruelty, the fact is he has highlighted a barbaric practise still common place around the world. Shark fin soup uses the fin for texture only not taste, so why use it?
One bright spot is that the European Members of Parliament have voted for a Written Declaration to ban for good the barbarous practise of Shark Finning, it is still early days but at least a start.

The awareness is being made, see also Angling Times magazine stance.

Oh, a subject close to both our hearts and a great many others on Dtv and elsewhere
Yeah you know, just watching the show with Hugh, i mean, it's ok to have legislation that people don't like but what i want to know is who the hell comes up with legislation that says even if you catch perfectly edible fish, and even if it is dead you have to throw it back into the sea, i mean it could'nt be any more backward if it tried, how is this even legal, how is this even allowed, and more to the point, why is'nt this utter insanity dealt with by our politicians over night in a few hours. I've said it many times for many years, it's as if aliens are running this place...

Commonsense and fairplay is alien, agreed a wasteful planet indeed, run by the few.

IMPORTANT UPDATE
TV chef Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall's victory in ethical fishing fight
http://www.metro.co.uk/news/868910-tv-c ... z1RtyQIOqy
Fishermen will be banned from throwing dead catch back into the sea in the most radical reform of their industry in 40 years.
The shake-up completes a victory for campaigning TV chefs and their 700,000 supporters who signed a petition demanding seafood is produced more ethically.
It will end a practice which sees 4million tonnes of edible fish, including threatened species such as cod and haddock, being thrown back a year because of quota rules.

Proposals for Common Fisheries Policy announced tomorrow
An amazing 692,000 people have already signed up to the Fish Fight, but this is the week when we need your support more than ever.
The draft proposals for the new CFP will be published in Brussels tomorrow at noon (Wednesday 13 July).
The world’s media will be there, and we want them to be dazzled by our interactive counter, whizzing up towards a million signatures.
This is another big chance to show how strongly people feel about the need to protect both our fish stocks and our fishermen’s livelihoods - before it's too late.
'Victory in ethical fishing fight'
As you may have seen, there’s been a lot of press this week claiming victory for the Fish Fight campaign.
But it's too early to start celebrating.
We understand that the proposals will recommend a discard ban, and that it wouldn’t have happened without you. But that's all it is, I'm afraid - recommendations.
Tomorrow’s publication is just the first step in the reform process that will take another 18 months to complete.
That means there’s plenty of time for the politicians and decision makers to reject these proposals.
So it’s more important than ever to keep up the pressure, or this small victory could easily be lost.

You cannot stress this issue enough DrJ for the sake of future generations of a decent oceanic ecosystem as well as a rich and varied food source. I despair however when I saw on the BBC yesterday the opening comment from Maria Damanaki however, same old same old yes we have a problem and yet age old rules and regulations legislation from Brussels fudges the issue, this allowance of catch discard to pick and mix your quotas is lunacy
