A MAJOR police operation is under way after reports that a lion is on the loose in rural Essex.

Officers with firearms are on the scene in Earls Hall Drive, St Osyth, near Clacton.
Residents living in the area are being advised to stay indoors after police received reports of a lion being seen in a field just before 7pm this evening.
Officers from Essex Police have been working with experts from Colchester Zoo who believe the reports to be genuine after being shown a photograph from a member of the public.
There is an increased police presence in the area - including firearms officers - and the police helicopter searching near where it was spotted.
Police are also trying to establish where the lion may have come from.
Apparently local zoo's have said no lions are missing, sounds like someone's secret pet is missing.

Would've thought they would of used a tranquilliser gun to put it asleep though seems it hasn't attacked anyone yet.
Report's circling though that it might not be a lion but some other big cat species, interesting.

I'm just a big softy when it comes to animals Dom. But if it hasn't escaped from a zoo and is someone's pet maybe it is tame, hence the tranquilliser being a better option if nobody is in danger.

Apparently the latest on this now is that maybe it has escaped from a nearby circus, but that is still speculation at this time, but if true that is going to be one pi**ed of cat..

I am sure they could shoot it dead with one of these roof top models installed.

I am nott sure of the logistics. But call the lion a terrorist and the order will be given.
Sorry had to do it.
