You might like:

I was just thinking.
And then searching for something about this idea (or theory if you will) but I didnt find anything! yet.(including explanations for why it wasnt! build for protection from flood).
They might have lived there as a preparation for when the time of a giant flood comes...
Any thoughts or links to similar ideas are welcome.

I do agree, the location are just perfect suited for escaping floods.
Take a look at this picture i link too,and you are able to zoom all over the place with super quality.

It must have taken a serious long time to get the mountainpeak down to this,so they must have been aware of some comming "events" in theire future.
"Again nobody knows the purpose they served to the Incan. Bingham thought it was Vilcabamba the old- the last Incan Capital. But afterwards it was proved that Machu Picchu is not Vilcabamba. So what is Machu Picchu? There is lot of speculation on the purpose it served. According to one theory, it was the royal retreat. Other theory states that it was a religious place. Also it is believed that it was an ancient fortress. Because of it's location, the city was easily defendable. Think of the steep trail and drawbridges - it was really difficult to conquer the city. But still nobody knows which theory is the true one. That is why Machu Picchu is so mysterious. "

@zabernismer; thanx for the link mate, really nice.
"Most archaeologists believe that Machu Picchu was built as an estate for the Inca emperor Pachacuti (1438–1472)",well if we build nuclear bunkers, who we gonna reserve a seat ?
@germanpils;it is a strange thing to not find anything regarding this idea, yet its so simple.
I might start some research on when it was build exactly, and compare with some dates on beliefs, prophecies of floods in the area and in inca culture and so on.Who knows....BUT I think if it were so,somebody mustev have connected the dots alreaddy...
thanx for interest guys,cheers

There are many stories around the world about a flood, so I think it could be a reason why machu picchu is build so high.
There is evidence of destruction (on the east side) of megalithic structures on the east coast of America that are build at high altitudes (not as high as machu picchu)
In Australia there is also a story / stories of a great tidal wave / tsunami that hit the east coast.
Australia is up to now still part of turtle island, that is because it was first connected to what is now America.
Australia was the first world (my opinion)
