TALLAHASSEE, Fla., May 6 (UPI) -- Mandatory drug testing for welfare recipients soon will be the law in Florida.

The measure passed the state Senate 26-11 Thursday, The Miami Herald reported, following 78-38 approval by the House in April. Gov. Rick Scott has made it a priority.

"It's fair to taxpayers," the governor said after the vote. "They're paying the bill. And they're often drug screened for their jobs. On top of that, it's good for families. It creates another reason why people will think again before using drugs."

Scott earlier issued an executive order requiring random drug testing of state employees.

The bill makes all adult recipients of federal Temporary Assistance for Needy Families benefits pay for the tests, which usually cost about $35, but those who pass will be reimbursed.

Recipients who test positive for any illicit substances -- after disclosing all prescriptions they take -- will lose benefits for a year. A second failed test will cost them benefits for three years. Parents will have to designate another adult to collect benefits for their children.

The measure provides no funds for drug treatment.

If it looks like a duck, acts like a duck, and quacks like a duck it is probably just a tool of the conspiracy.

I am fine with this though. You take government money, you play by their rules. You know how to avoid this? Get a job.

“I am for doing good to the poor, but…I think the best way of doing good to the poor, is not making them easy in poverty, but leading or driving them out of it. I observed…that the more public provisions were made for the poor, the less they provided for themselves, and of course became poorer. And, on the contrary, the less was done for them, the more they did for themselves, and became richer.”

LOL are you serious!?!?!?!?!

Drug testing wasn't even supposed to be for anyone in Civilian business in the first place as it violates your amendment rights, it was actually a Federal Law Passed for "Federal" employees only, but the civilian sector took it up as a way to discourage people from being hired and look like they are being proactive in Hiring and economic stimulation.

you know the saying:

"work only as hard as you are supposed to, unless you are getting paid to work harder"

yeah that covers it.

this whole Piss testing thing is now stuck in a "gray" legal limbo.

What a Joke this is though..... how pathetic to assume the worst that Welfare recipients are DRUG USERS!

WOW!

This is fantastic news. The best! I live close to a town in Maine called Van Buren, which is a Section 8 (HUD Housing) town full of degenerates, drug dealers, corrupt police, and mental retards, all on federal and state aid. We middle income people get raped up the butt in State taxes (Maine is number 3 in high income taxes in the entire Union), and there’s nothing freakin’ up here. The roads are similar to what you find in third world countries, snow removal costs people up to a thousand dollars a year, you have to keep your house in bad condition or the state raises your property tax, and all the politicians and top officials are members of either the Knights of Columbus or the Freemasons (who get a stipend check in the mail every month out of the state income tax). There’s a Tea Party movement up here, but it’s not enough. We need something like what happened here in the above post to happen in Northern Maine.

Plus, Doctors who keep issuing Oxy to everyone with a sore nipple need to start getting thrown in jail. Not because that Oxy is expensive and unemployed degenerates don’t need to be on a drug that’s as strong as Heroin, but because 90% of the people they prescribe the drug to could have done with Tylenol.

Hurrah, Florida town. Boo, Northern Maine and the Knight and Masons who run this friggin’ cesspool.

that would prove what?

you shouldn't be tested for Drugs unless you have shown that you are experiencing problems in using those drugs or it is making the workplace unsafe, a simple interview should be enough to gauge lets say....... a crack head.... look for chapped lips, white and bloody from dehydration and crack residue, bugged out dilated eyes, scratching, irritable movements...

a simple assessment during an interview should be mandatory yes, but assuming everyone who has smoked a little weed or what have you and controls their habits is assuming the worst in all and giving no one the benefit of the doubt.

I will say that I don't have a problem with Unions, I do have a problem with alot of their contradictory policies though....

who else is going to stand up for their craft when the government keeps pushing wages and the standard of living lower? A group of pissed off Unions is what.

so that is because of Welfare instead of the personal choices of those people?

that doesn't make sense :headscratch:
