Well Mars actually did have a magnetic field, but not a similar one as on Earth. Natural occurrences on Mars are very much different as on Earth. CO2 atmosphere for instance has been found inside rock formations and that’s a proven fact.
Methane also was discovered in large amounts on Mars, but strangely disappeared rapidly and science still hasn’t found an explanation for this.
So we can conclude we don't know ratsass about Mars. We know there is water, we know there is atmosphere (very little that is) and than again science also discovered DNA can adept itself to any environment as far as we can conclude now, but still no solid evidence have been found. So that means we don't know anything for sure, everything is based on assumption.
Please don't missunderstand me. I'm not mentioning there IS life of some sort on Mars, but I'm also not mentioning there is NO life on Mars.
