Editor’s note: Forbes posted the following yesterday: “Without cooling water, the irradiated nuclear fuel could spontaneously combust in an exothermic reaction. Since the storage pools are not located within containment, a catastrophic radioactivity release to the environment could occur. Up to 100 percent of the volatile radioactive Cesium-137 content of the pools could go up in flames and smoke, to blow downwind over large distances. Given the large quantity of irradiated nuclear fuel in the pool, the radioactivity release could be worse than the Chernobyl nuclear reactor catastrophe of 25 years ago.”
A large explosion at Japan’s stricken Fukushima Daiich nuclear power plant reveals that a meltdown is now underway following the exposure of the core following an 9.1-magnitude earthquake.
The media in Japan is not reporting this fact in order to prevent mass hysteria.
Prior to the explosion today, the media reported the radiation level was 1000 times higher than the permissible level.

dude, please don't fear monger people.
they have already stated that if the melt down was a worse case scenario, that only people within a 8 mile radius would have to relocate (possibly)....
Chernobyl was a tragic accident by a poor Shitty nuclear reactor in a communist country, where the safeguards and standards were well below restrictions and they didn't know until the meltdown happened how unsafe they were and how keeping secrets about the production ended up kicking them in the ass......
Chernobyl and this event are not and will not be the same tragedy...
the only reason you are all thinking it is / is because the Media likes to report on Nuclear Meltdowns because that drives STOCKS,.....you know Energy? that's a pretty big event to watch out for should you have investments.

If the MSM is reporting anything...
it will NOT be the truth of any matter.
since when has the media told the truth about anything ?
at any time ? Do not blindly believe anything you see or hear, period.
In these times anything that seems totally impossible is totally possible .

I do not think his intentions are to fear monger people.

Quake-hit Japan nuclear plant faces new threat
Reuters – 2 hrs 4 mins ago
SENDAI, Japan (Reuters) – Japan faced a fresh radiation threat at an earthquake-crippled nuclear plant on Sunday after the cooling system failed at a second reactor in what could be the world's worst nuclear disaster in 25 years. Full Story »

One of the best things to come out of this (even though it is a utmost horrid situation) is that people in Europe made a 27 Mile chain, a HUMAN chain, to pass protest papers to reject the continuation of Nuclear power in Europe. That right there, is the actions people need to take to save the planet.

As are you, the day of the quake, the plant WAS fine. Now it is not, this is something that occurs when things like leagues of water come crashing in on your living place, after a massive earthquake, already making people leave the area in fear instead of being rational and trying to prevent from there on.
