Teenagers poured gasoline on boy walking home from school and set him on fire: cops - NY Daily News

A 13-year-old boy who police say was doused with gasoline and lit on fire last week while walking home from school is recovering from first-degree burns to his face and head.

The boy was just two blocks from his home in Kansas City Tuesday when two teenagers began to follow him and then attacked him, his mother, Melissa Coon, said.

Police have described the suspects as black 16-year-olds, while the victim is white.

"We were told it's a hate crime," Coon told KTLA.

"They rushed him on the porch as he tried to get the door open," Coon told KMBC. "(One of them) poured the gasoline, then flicked the Bic, and said, 'This is what you deserve. You get what you deserve, white boy.'"

By lighting the gasoline, the second attacker "produced a large fireball burning the face and hair" of the boy, according to a Kansas City Police Department report obtained by KCTV.

"It was pretty bad stuff," Detective Stacey Taylor told the TV station, adding that police are concerned the boy may have suffered damage to his eyes and lungs.

Coon said her son put out the fire with his shirt and called 911 himself. He was rushed to the hospital and was treated for his injuries.

She believes the students also attend East High School with her son, and said he will not be returning to the school. She also told KMBC her traumatized family plans now plans to move.

"My 5-year-old came in and asked me, 'Mom, am I going to get set on fire today?'" Coon said. "I was in tears."

Nah bruh... its 'cause the tree hugging, "time out" teaching, less tough love more pure love...idiots...believe that if they just "open their arms" in love that the rest of the world will do the same and follow suit...

Just the same as many peeps believe anger towards racism, of any kind, is "not the answer but the problem".

Your anger/frutstration is properly directed... don't get angry at the color...as a matter of fact...forget about the color of the attackers...or the attacked...

If this was two white guys doing it to a black guy the media would be up in arms for weeks, Oprah would have the family and the family's family on for months, the streets would fill with angry black folks, and it would be the white man's fault...

What is needed is less of all of that...and more generalized "hatred" towards anyone who blames/attacks people for their color and not their contributions to society...

The new "prejudice" needs to be all about: "What have you done for your society...for your local neighborhood...for those around you...lately?"

And for those who attack and/or defend based on a person's color only...and not their contrabutions to society as a whole... those are the folks...in my opinion...we can be angry with... because they are the "enablers"... who enable prejudice to thrive in our society.

The two kids who did this need the book thrown at them to the full extent...however...there should be a public history of what they have done to make America "better"... because we know the media will cover it...eventually... and we won't hear about it for several nights in a row...but we will hear about it here.

So...being pissed at the two teenagers who did this horrifying thing...100% ok in my book... being pissed at anyone of a similar color just because they are the same color as the kids...

Nah... we are better than that... being pissed at anyone who is as *stupid* and non-contributing as the two offending teenagers... go right ahead and be a hata!

Because... when we shed the whole "color" thing...and just look at a person's worth to society and base our prejudices on that...

Then we can truly find our full potential as a united group of free people.

Up until this time... we are just idiots pointing fingers at the irrelevant physical characteristics...
