Just throwing up some random statistics from encyclopedia Britannica showing the number of confessed atheists vs. confessed religious people in no way adds any more weight to your argument. I just used atheists as an example, for the validity of you argument to be true, they would all have to be blood thirsty lunatics, which they are not.
Yeah i saw i incorrectly attributed you with atehism. rgr.
And im not arguing about your opinion, just the process..
And those statistics completely vindicate my position.
But just becuase 3% of a population isnt violent due to self control,
doesnt mean that the other 97% who DO have beliefs arent being positively influenced by those beliefs..
Thats a total logical fracture.
One conclusion cant come from the other.
And @grows..
what makes you say that agnosticism is wrong headed?
Just curious.
Doesnt that make it also the most honest, in terms of a western mind?

It is a more honest belief system. There is some play in the definition of agnostic, but generally I've found that beyond not knowing, there is the belief that the truth of God is unknowable.
Here's one definition "Agnosticism is the position of believing that knowledge of the existence or non-existence of god is impossible."
Perhaps it is possible... I don't know. Not knowing whether there is a God or not, how would I know whether it was possible to know or not?

It means you must come to the realization that YOU determine your destiny. It means accepting that nothing is for certain, that random acts can change the entire course of your planned existence. How you react to those unanticipated events (positive and negative) IS within your control. You must be centered, treat your body with the care and respect you expect from others, and find meaning in loving, peaceful relationships with humans and other species of life. You must cherish our planet and its marvelous diversity in the millions of interrelated ecosystems.
I was raised a catholic but like most of my generation rejected the dogmatism of organised religion. That's not to say I believe or disbelieve in God. To my mind, the only reasonable position to assume is one of agnosticism.
But what about all these catholic priests who abuse children? If they truly believed in God then they could not commit these acts because they'd know that God was watching them all the time and their punishment would be eternal damnation. A more disturbing idea is that these priests don't think they are doing anything wrong.

Religion promises rewards for following their laws,if religion does not exists people will simply have to follow their own laws,do you really need to live for all eternity in heaven? What about just being happy now and making the most of the short time you do have?
well said
