This is posted in philosophy because the picture I am talking about, has a philosophy to it, I can not say it is a good philosophy, but it has one non the less. I believe the philosophy to this picture would be this.... You watch this, and you will suffer for it. That is the moral point I believe.

Now I am not one of these people who rally against violent or disturbing movies, "except in the case of unnecessary animal cruelty, Cannibal Holocaust I am looking in your direction", No, I am very laid back, and can tolerate the very worst cinema has to offer, and have, I never flinched at "Salo" I was repulsed, but the story was a true one, I never looked away at the the final third act of "Martyrs" which is some of the cruelest and most disturbing imagery the cinema had to offer (or so I thought), it was a great film, but hard to stomach the final thirty minutes. The movies "The Human Centipede" "Frontiers" "High Tension" and "Inside" are an absolute tea party compared to this, and Lar's Von Triers "Antichrist" is a fucking Saturday morning cartoon in comparison.

I consider the majority of those movies above to be varying degrees of cinema greatness.

The Movie I just sat through (uncut) is called "A Serbian Film"

Image

Believe me when I tell you that apart from the real death compilation movies ("traces of gore - death scenes - faces of death 1 through 6 "which are mostly fake by the way" and the mondo movies) this movie is without a doubt the single hardest viewing experience I have had, and I sat through Transformers 2 Revenge of the Fucktards.

Image

It would be hard for me to explain this film in conventional terms, but I am about to try anyway...

A Serbian Film, has a lot of subtext, mainly about the countries shame in its not to distant past. Though you would have to have a basic understanding of what that means, genocide, rape, murder, and political elite meshing for supremacy. Now, this is the case, but you will have to look past the explicit sex and graphic violence and some of the cinemas most controversial scenes in order to understand this.

Whats it about ?

Well, the movie starts off about an aging porn star named Milo, the star of such classics as "good crotch" etc etc, he is retired and living a somewhat happy family life with his wife and child, he doesn't miss his work, but he misses the money and his fading bank account needs a topping up. When out of the blue, he gets the offer from an old co star flame to be a part of a new production, one that pays so well that he will never want for money again. So far so good, he takes a meeting with the producer at his mansion, and after being told that he is in no way allowed to know what he is filming "because he wouldn't be as good in it" and that it is a production for high paying clients, he reluctantly agrees to sign the contract.

Now this is where people may start having a problem, (gulp) he is given an ear piece and told to go to a location where he is met by men filming him, and talked through it by the producer director. "Walk straight, act natural etc etc" the opening scene ends with a woman beating her child and dragging her away down a corridor.

Image

Milo is obviously bemused and totally confused as to what he has gotten himself into, and so is the viewer "me".

As each scene unfolds, it gets stranger and stranger, and far more concerning for the viewer (as it is meant to) for example, in scene three Milo is taken into a dark room with a masonic checkered floor and witnesses a woman being beaten, and as she is left she starts crawling towards him and ends up tugging him off, after biting him (down below) and after he is threatened to continue, did I also mention that the child from scene one, is sitting in a chair on the other side of the dark room smiling, while this is happening. In scene two he is forced to watch this child "on a projection screen" eat a lolipop while he is being pleasured.

Image

Yes, you heard that right, its disturbing to witness, However I need to point out, that this was a movie, and it had a real crew a real director and no child was ever present during any sexual scene while filming. Period. You do not ever directly see a child in sexual acts or anything like that. Except once, and I will explain that in a moment, if you can stomach it.

The film goes further than any other film in history in terms of shock value, and believe me, this is not for the weak stomached. The scene which has the censors all over the world outraged, is the scene where Milo who asks to leave the production, and has doubts about what he has gotten himself into, is shown by the producer director (as a way to keep him on board) a film of a pregnant lady giving birth, and the new born baby being raped by a masked man, it is shown from behind and the baby is anamatronic, you do not directly see it happen, well hardly. ,

Now, this is obviously disgusting, and the film points that out by Milo running for the hills after seeing it. However the line that is said in conjunction with it, is what I think has really gotten the censors rattled "the director screams, its a whole new start NEWBORN PORN"

Had I not of been told how good the movie was (by people in the picture industry) I would have turned it off right there. However, this was only half way through, and by the very end of the movie, what came in the first half, was nothing compared to the second.

Image

In defense of the movie, I know it speaks of real issues, and it is trying to say something, however the general public who are not savy in terms of historical knowledge and cinema nods shakes and homages, will see this only as cruelty. It certainly will not be a pleasant viewing experience (unless your sick, you may like it otoel lol), however I think that may also be the point, it is not supposed to be pleasant to see, the final few scenes are so depraved I can not even describe them, I also will not spoil them, because, believe it or not, it is a good film. Its hard to stomach, it deals with very controversial subjects, it is also funny in a weird way, if you ever see it, you may understand. I certainly cant explain that, but there are aspects that are funny. Not many granted, but they are there in places.

Most of this, nobody will have to suffer, as I believe there are between 5 - 6 minutes cut from the movie, for the US and European markets. So when I read reviews of people saying, "well I dont know what all the fuss was about", well if you saw the uncut version, you may not think that way.

As bad as what is described in this review of mine is, I have left out the worst, like the scene where a horse tranquilized character ends up raping a woman while beheading her in the act and beyond. Even that, doesn't touch upon whats in store for you, like I say the final scenes will not only shock but numb you, and for a specific reason.

Image

I think the reason this review is so long, is I am now coming to terms with having seen it. And trying to rationalize the motives behind it, remember I didnt even come into this by chance, I was guided towards it, and I knew a little history on it. Even so, my god.

After viewing the uncut version of A Serbian Film, I feel like the character milo.

Image

I will say it is a good film, many wouldnt I am sure, but I will warn all those away that even have the slightest hint of a weak stomach. It doesn't look cheap, the actors are excellent, and the cinematography is fantastic.

Cinema at its hardest and most unforgiving.

I never though I would see someone with one eye get skull fucked, guess I was wrong

People you have no idea.

yea this is pretty fuck up, movie that has no point, beside dulling us down

people that hasn't seen it don't watch it,,,

plot

Miloš is a semi-retired Serbian porn star with a beautiful wife and young son. Although he is strapped financially, his home life is happy, and his biggest problem comes in the form of the jealousies of his brother, Marko, a corrupt police officer who envies Miloš' family life.
Seeking one last big payday to make a clean break from pornography and secure his family's financial future, Miloš is intrigued when one of his former co-stars, Lejla, approaches him with an offer to star in an "art film" being directed by Vukmir, a well-connected, independently wealthy pornographer who wants to cast Miloš for his legendary ability to get and maintain an erection with no visual or physical stimuli. When Vukmir offers Miloš a large sum of money to star in the film, Miloš reluctantly agrees, ambivalent towards Vukmir's insistence that he must remain ignorant as to the plot of the film until shooting begins.[5][6]
Miloš is picked up the next morning and taken to an orphanage where he is supplied an earpiece by Vukmir's driver, Rasa. A voice speaks to him from the earpiece, giving him instructions on what to do.[5] A film crew follows him around with cameras and puts him in various sexual situations to see how he will react.[7] Initially, it seems that Miloš is participating in a standard reality porn, until he's led into a room and instructed to have sex with a physically abused woman while a young girl dressed like Alice in Wonderland watches. Miloš becomes enraged and refuses to continue, but is grabbed from behind and forced to stay. Later Vukmir shows Miloš another one of his projects: a film of Rasa helping a woman give birth to a baby girl; Rasa then proceeds to rape the newborn in what the director calls "newborn porn".[8]
Miloš storms out to his car. There, he is approached by Vukmir's doctor, an attractive woman, who begins to seduce him. Miloš suddenly wakes up in his bed three days later, bloodied and beaten and with no memory of what has happened. He returns to the set and finds a number of tapes. Viewing them, Miloš discovers that over the course of the previous three days, he was fed a mixture of drugs to induce a perpetually aggressive, sexually aroused, and suggestible state. Under the influence of the drugs, and at Vukmir's insistence, Miloš brutally beats and rapes a nude woman handcuffed to a bed while Vukmir tells Miloš that she deserves it for cheating on her husband, a Serbian war hero. In the climax of this scene, Vukmir instructs Miloš to slice the woman's head off with a machete in order to induce rigor mortis as he continues to have sex with her body. Another tape contains a scene in which Miloš is naked and chained to a bed face down. Two men enter the room, one holding a camera. The one without the camera begins sodomizing the unconscious Miloš. The final tape depicts Lejla chained and hanging in the middle of the room, all of her teeth having been removed; a masked man enters the room and forces his erect penis down her throat until she suffocates.[8][9]
Miloš follows clues from the tapes he has seen only to remember more horrific details about the three days he can't remember. Miloš was taken into a room and made to sodomize a body hidden under covers. The masked man enters and begins to have sex with another body beside the one Miloš is raping. The masked man is revealed to be Miloš' brother Marko, and the body he is raping is Miloš' drugged wife. The covers are taken off of the body Miloš is raping to reveal his own son, also drugged. A melee ensues during which Miloš' wife regains consciousness and Miloš manages to wrest a gun from one of Vukmir's bodyguards. Miloš' wife bludgeons Marko to death, while Miloš kills Vukmir and all but one of his bodyguards, which he only harms with two bullets shot in the bodyguard's torso. Confronting the final bodyguard, Miloš knocks off his sunglasses and discovers that the man is missing an eye. He tries to shoot him but finds out that the gun is empty. Miloš jams his erect penis into the man's empty eye socket, killing him.[8] He then knocks his wife unconscious and takes her and their son home, locking them in the basement before passing out. After remembering everything, Miloš gathers his family into bed and fatally shoots his wife, son, and himself. Sometime later, another film director enters, accompanied by another porn star and a film crew. The director instructs the actor to "start with the little one," prompting the actor to unzip his trousers.

Holy shit dude. I haven't seen it and I doubt that I will ever. I can't stomach that kind of movie violence anymore; the special effects have made it start to look too real.

Props to the makers, if they are trying to educate people that such things actually go on in this fucked up world.

That's really the scary part Fleck.

Video games mixed with a healthy dose of MTV mentality alone have eroded what being human means.

What's so bad about running someone down, or blowing their shit away when it's done by 8 year olds everyday online. Hell - it's just points.

What films like this do is push the limits of abhorrence. As Troll said, "It Numbs".

I made it through a few minutes of some films that were brought up during the last post such as this. THEY HAUNTED ME!!! Albeit, they were real, and I couldn't take them. Wondered what lurked deep down to fascinate me enough to watch someone else's terror and suffering. I only had 1 viable answer. My own need to vicariously view how evil and how tormented people can be.

It's sick. It was sick of me. I will never be able to get the picture of that teenage Russian kid out of my mind, begging for his mother when a couple of jackasses decided it was his last day on earth. And I'm 43.

"They" know that they can't make every single man woman and child in the world completely willing to take part in "their" depravity. So they do the next best thing...they make them think that it's no big deal. And apathy to such suffering might actually even be worse than complicity.

you dont need a movie, games or books to reach this level or that level. It is apart of humanity.
has been and unfortunately will continue to be.

History, and the acts of many can show proof of that.
No video game, nor movie needed.

Were the Spartans cruel to discard what they deemed as weak children?
is a cat that plays with its food before it eats evil? It may not even eat it, dolphins have also committed what could be seen as cruel acts.. are they cruel, or is our perception of such that makes it that way.

I by no means am saying what is depicted in that film, which i haven't seen, is right, or good or excusable in anyway.

But i think what it likely illustrates overall, that moral, good acts, honor, is subjective, and circumstantial to what it taught.

which can be said for much if not all we know, or think we know.
