As I said " Open to interpretation "

But that is a freaking guinea pig , and as there are no guinea pigs on mars . we must assume that these pictures were taken in a more guinea pig friendly environment .

Ergo , All the pics with the mystery cross , rodents , bits of plastic and harbin's beer can were taken on earth .

My guess , the high Andes , where Guinea pigs live .

............................................................................ :flop:

Can you see Christ the Redeemer from The Andes? That would explain the cross...

Hi for all!

Well, what about put imagination aside for a moment and do a technical approach on this case?
So, let's go!
I applied some filters on the image that is currently on the NASA website, the image on which the cross does not appear.
The result you can check in the picture I posted on DTV.
The upper left image, is a piece of the original NASA's image and the other pieces were treated with filters:
http://www.disclose.tv/action/viewphoto/115043/Curiosity_mars_image_filtered/

Note that the horizon was clipped.
The clipping preserves a portion of the Rover that sits above it.
Apparently the clipping was done to cover up the cross or other "undesirable" details.
Yes?
No!
I applied the same filters on the image with the cross that was released on a link in a previous post.
The result was an image similar to that obtained when I applied the filters in NASA image, with the same cuts.
Why?
Why the "original" image with the cross was edited?
The cuts should only appear in the image without the cross, right?
Wrong!
Who came first, the egg or the chicken?
Let's see what the image properties have to tell us:

The image that is on the NASA's site (without the cross):
<xap:CreatorTool>Adobe Photoshop CS6 (Macintosh)</xap:CreatorTool>
<xap:CreateDate>2012-11-01T15:30:27-07:00</xap:CreateDate>
<tiff:XResolution>1500000/10000</tiff:XResolution>
<tiff:YResolution>1500000/10000</tiff:YResolution>

The image that was released on a link (with the cross):
<xap:CreatorTool>Adobe Photoshop CS3 Windows</xap:CreatorTool>
<xap:CreateDate>2012-11-02T09:48:21 01:00</xap:CreateDate>
<tiff:XResolution>720000/10000</tiff:XResolution>
<tiff:YResolution>720000/10000</tiff:YResolution>

The data above says that the image without the cross, currently in the NASA's site, came first, was created with dedicated hardware, newer software and that the source image had a higher resolution.

Do you still have any doubt?
No?
I still have one doubt!
Why the NASA's original image shows cuttings when filters are applied?
Why?

Thanks for reading it.

http://www.nasa.gov/mission_pages/msl/m ... 16238.html

straight from the NASA page, nothing has changes except some one edited that photo with the cross

Preliminary Self-Portrait of Curiosity by Rover's Arm Camera
On Sol 84 (Oct. 31, 2012), the Curiosity rover used the Mars Hand Lens Imager (MAHLI) to capture the set of thumbnail images stitched together to create this full-color self-portrait.

This self-portrait documents the state of the rover and allows mission engineers to track changes over time, such as dust accumulation and wheel wear. Due to its location on the end of the robotic arm, only MAHLI is able to image some parts of the rover, including port-side wheels.

The mosaic shows the rover at "Rocknest," the spot in Gale Crater where the mission's first scoop sampling took place. Scoop scars can be seen in the regolith in front of the rover. A portion of Mount Sharp appears on the right side. Mountains in the background to the left are the northern wall of Gale Crater.

When the rover returns the full-resolution MAHLI frames of the scene, the team plans to generate a more detailed portrait of Curiosity in its Martian neighborhood.

This is also where the original photo is download the full size and check the properties details against the one with de cross, two diffent dates, imagine that :clapper: :clapper:

I have sent a request for the original photo that mr Martienz Fernandez, as he has said he would deliver it to anyone who asks :mrcool:

Conclusion:
No cross on Mars.
Ok?

Next target:
"Guinea pig on Mars."
"That's rock!"... say, "Let's rock!"

Interesting avatar there Flieg. I'm biased of course, because I've seen that image before (or one very similar).
What does it mean to you? Maybe nothing, but just curious.

Weird stuff being seen , plastic foil , guinea pigs , now a seemingly large cross .

Any thoughts guys ?

What is obvious is obvious.
This location is not in Mars but here in Earth.
Could be a scaled model made of chocolate powder.
Seeing the texture I guess is Hershey's.
